Great thread here! Your bug spray mods gave me an idea. I only work at home on my own car so I don't need it for portability.

The water is pretty hard here. Even the Mr. Clean spot free system still leaves some spots. However, I have a RO/DI system that I use for my saltwater aquarium hobby. The TDS going into my RO/DI system is around 245! However, with the RO/DI system I can get the water down to around 0-1. So now I can fill up a bug sprayer with RO/DI and do a final spot free power rinse Guess it is time to make a run to Lowes.

    Cheers!

I guess the pressure rating means the water pressure inside the machine.

What is the actual pressure on the washed surface? Say, at 5 inch, 10 inch distance from the nozzle?

The PSI and GPM are both measured at the immediate exit of the spray tip.

5-10 inches away reduces the force of the exiting water, definitely.

The next variable in determining the force with which the water hits a target surface is the type of spray tip attached to the wand. Is it a wide fan spray, one more narrow, or a straight stream?
See the big picture, enjoy the details

Re: Portable Pressure Washers and Why?

Just thought I'd update this thread. That little portable Karcher I bought bit the dust a few months ago. Water just started leaking and pouring out from inside the unit and there was no pressure. I haven't checked it since, but I also haven't had a need to use it either.

I also would not detail without one. I use a cheap $200.00 gas unit that puts out 1800 or so psi. I have never seen any damge come from it, and it cleans faster and better than just a hose. I like to "shoot out" all of the cracks where soap and dirt build up. I do not like to use the soap in the washer however. I think you use too much soap and I don't really see the point.

You need a real Karcher pressure washer!

You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.
