  • using a cleaner/polish before nxt wax?

i usually do a wash with nxt car wash, then a clay bar (as needed), then wax with nxt tech wax.

i want to add a cleaning, and perhaps a polishing step before the nxt... would this improve my results even more? I was thinking of using the meguiars cleaner wax #6 (cleaner/polish/wax combo) for its cleaning and polishing properties, then using nxt on top of that. would that work well? any other tips or suggestions? do the 'polishing' properties of that cleaner wax add essential oils back into the paint?

    thanks for the help!

    Welcome to MOL!

You could use #6 prior to NXT with no problems and would help clean the surface. As for #6 adding polishing oils I am not sure on that.

IMO I would go with a cleaner polish.... Since you are looking in the pro line, I really like #80 Speed Glaze others use #82 Swirl Free Polish. By adding a cleaner/polishing step you will see better end results, well worth the time to add the additional step.

Do you apply the your products by hand with a PC or rotary?

For application by hand, either M80 Speed Glaze, or M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 would make a great cleaner/polish before applying wax.

so the #80 speed glaze would cover both cleaning and polishing? would i achieve even better results by going with say #2 then #7 then nxt wax? is the fine cut cleaner safe for frequent use on a clearcoat?

Yes, #80 would cover both cleaning and polishing.

Generaly, you would get better results from separate steps, not combo products, though #80 is pretty darn good.

I believe #4 says it can be used by hand, but I am not sure it will give you the best results.

Personaly, I would think of #80 as a cleaner, and then use a pure polish like #7.

I will say I agree... in my case I follow with #81 on my vehicle. If I am doing someone elses or in a time crunch I will just reach for #80, really works well and polishes up very nice.

barrman... We have tossed out alot of numbers for you!

I like this topic. caught my attention and I would like to follow a similar routine also.
recently purchased a SUV in August 05.
                so, its very new.
I do the following wash wax steps, but like 'barrman' wanted to add a few more steps.
                after claying, I can also use a #80 (or ???) follow-up with #7.
                finish with NXT wax.
QD to keep the shine going.
this will all be done by hand.

You can use #80 for regular stuff, #83 for swirls.

And you may also like ot get the Nxt Spray Wax, to keep up the shine, and just add back a little protection.

hehe yeah a lot of numbers, but so far i'm keeping up ;o) will #80 be safe for long-term frequent use, before every wax, or should it be used sparingly?

#80 can be used quite often with no worries.

                        Hey,

Just to chime in to correct some information...

Meguiar's #4 Heavy Cut Cleaner is from the Meguiar's Traditional Line of Paint Cleaners and is a Rotary Buffer only product.

As for #80, if applied by hand or DA Polisher, it can be used often with no issues.

I don't need to use a swirl product if I don't have any correct?
such as the 'DISO'. when I take my SUV for service, I need to make sure they don't wash it.
I pretty much do all my applications my hand. no DA yet. maybe in future. but all hand.
                          my routine will be...
                          NXT wash
                          clay
                          #80
                          #7 ?
                          NXT wax
                          QD

what's one thing I should do to keep it looking new? such as protecting the paint, keeping it shining, etc.
its only 2 months since I've purchased my SUV.

if I have both #80 and #66, from which would I have more benefits as a pre-wax cleaner before NXT by hand? and by DA?
