  • Generic Cotton Towels

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if any bath towels which are 100% pure cotton is safe to use on paintwork?
Running low on budget but still enthusiatic about keeping my car without swirls.

    Comments please?

What is the test that we can do to check if its 100% cotton or otherwise?

    Thanks.
    Cheers,

The fluffier and thicker they are, the better.

Some of the lesser quality imported towels I see priced at $6/dozen claim to be 100% cotton, but there isn't much towel and it's a rough towel.

Now and then the outlets or even the dollar stores will have decent towels on sale.
See the big picture, enjoy the details

The test to check the cotton content of a towel is called the burn test.

A thing to check when purchasing cotton towels is to find out which part of the towel is cotton. Just because there is a hang saying 100% cotton, does not mean the whole towel is constructed of cotton, just that the cotton used in the towel is 100% cotton and not a blend. There may be other materials used in the construction of the towel, so look at the content tag for complete construction/compostion information.

Do you have an Advance auto parts near? They are are having a big sale going on right now.

        To be safe: NO

I think you'll wish you hadn't later on if you do.

I use them all the time (Hand towel size) for removing paint cleaners and cleaner/polish products. I also use them when claying too.

Look for a quality towel though. I found 100% Egyptian cotton towels at a textile outlet for $1.50 a-piece.......Very thick & soft!

              hi guys,

Thanks so much for the input. Well, I live out of the States so no Wal-Marts for me except on the TV :p .

Just thinking its too expensive to have a Ultimate Wipe a.k.a. Supreme Shine MF for every detail process (cleaning, waxing, polishing). What can I say, Meg's products are expensive where I live, due to the import and freight charges....

              Thanks!

If you have a KMart there, the Martha Stewart 4 Star towels are a super plush 100% cotton towel of the same weight and density as the highly regarded Koala towels sold for 2x-3x as much.

oh thanks so much guys for the input, probably not gonna put any unsafe cotton towels on paintowork, perhaps for interior (vinyls) and glass, wheels, etc.

                  Thanks again!
