  • newbie needs help please

    hello all,
I presently own a 2001 escalade, and the paint has swirl marks in it. My friend used meguiar's wax on his fleetwood. It came out excellent. I've detailed a car before but never dealt with swirl marks. I've done some research and I have seen the
Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner. now I have never used a
multi step system before its been the usual compound and wax,
but with the escalade I want to bring back a deep shine to it.
I've seen the step 1 and 2 Deep Crystal System at the store, but it looks like theres more to the system from looking around the
    forums.

    thanks,

Well, you are quite right.. the best part of Meguiars is all the options they give you.. but for a new person, the worst part is all the options they give.

Here is the basic idea.. You want to follow the five step system as much as possible, and I'll lay it out for you. But on a daily driver, there is another good option as well... so here it goes:

    5 - Step Process

    1. Wash - Use a quality wash like Gold Class or Nxt wash. Try and use high quality accesories, and the two-bucket method, with grit guard if possible.

    2. Clay - Meguiars Quick Clay. Fantastic. DO this as needed, probably 4 times a year or so.

    3. Clean - DC#1, that you saw, is a mild cleaner, actualy very mild. It will not remove swirls. To remove swirls, you will want to use ScratchX. Be sure to read the ScratchX How-To's..

    4. Polish - DC#2 is a great polish.

    5. Wax - You have many wax choices. Nxt, Gold Class, DC#3 are all possibilities. Remember, 2 thin coats are best.

THen, use a Spray Wax after most washes to maintain the look for a while.

Now, For my daily driver, here is what I do..

    1. Wash - as above.
    2. Clay - As above

    3. ColorX - This is a great one step Cleaner/Wax, with some abrasives that will be able to remove mild swirls. Good Stuff. Plus it counts as a first coat of wax.

    4. Wax - As above. I use Nxt Wax.

So, hopefully that is a start for you. Keep asking away

I am new and already had this explained to me:

You have one bucket (#1)with soap and a grit guard at the bottom, then you another bucket (#2) with just water (and a grit guard on bottom).

You use the soap bucket (#1) to wash of course, BUT when you rinse your washmit, you use the bucket (#2) with just water so you dont transfer any griity dirt to your cleaning solution. This helps to prevent additional swirl marks.

        I hope that helps!!!
