  • Is this enough? What would you reccomned. Black car...

Hello all, new guy to the forums but I have some questions.
    I have a 99 Black Mustang.
I have been using meguiars for about a year now but don't get the results I want.
I can get the paint nice and shiny but can't ever seem to get all the spider webbing/scratches out. Then a month down the road its back to looking normal.
Here is what I have to use any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
First off I use gold class car wash
    then meguiars clay bar system.
Deep crystal cleaner applied with a orbital (wal mart) buffer using a foam pad and removed with a terry cloth
Deep crystal polish applied with a orbital (wal mart) buffer using a foam pad and removed with a terry cloth
Gold class liquid wax applied with a orbital (wal mart) buffer using a foam pad and removed with a terry cloth.

I have thought about using scratch X or even using a terry pad to apply the product.
What would you all reccomend, time doesn't matter but I want to get a crystal clear finish.
    Thanks!

if you scroll down on the page at this link

my car basically looks like the left side of the BMW's Hood.
I want it to look like the right side, so what products would it take? I'm hopefully soon going to get to purchase a porter cable buffer...
I would like to be able to apply the products I use via machine instead of hand.

    Thanks again!

      there ya go

I'm want to see the response also. because I have the same problem.

I have spider webbing/scratches because I'm was using the wrong material for applications and removal.

Are you by chance using the same foam pad for all of your applications?

No I use a different foam pad for each product.

someone reccomended to me to use a terry cloth pad on the orbital that it would be slightly more aggressive?

I would like to use the products that will give me the best results since this car will stop being my daily driver soon.

          How would this work...

          Gold class wash
          Clay detailing system
Clear coat body scrub paint cleaner applied with orbital
          Deep Crystal cleaner with orbital
          deep crystal polish with orbital
          gold class wax

Now with the orbital what pads should I use? so far I've used foam and they haven't been aggressive enough, should I use terry or wool?

I'm starting on it tomorrow so speedy replies are appreciated!
          Thanks!

            Hi 99GT...Welcome to MOL!

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a good product, but it is one of the mildest cleaners in Meguiar's product line...Body Scrub has more bite, but with your machine, I would use MPPC. MPPC is the strongest cleaner you can apply by hand or orbital, and I would use it with terry bonnets to give the product more bite.

Even still, this may not be enough to remove all of the swirls. In that case, you will have to step up to a PC and a more aggressive product like #83 DACP.

Should I still use the crystal cleaner after the medalion?
Also when applying the crystal polish and gold class wax via orbital what pads should I use?
How do you determine weather to use terry, wool, or foam pads?

And lastly (I promise ) When using an orbital buffer should you lay it flat and use the entire pad? or use just the upper right 1/4 of it? (if the pad were a clock face you would only let between 12 and 4 o'clock touch the surface)

              Thanks!

You can if you want to..While using a PC, I have used DCPC after MPPC in order to remove any haze left over by MPPC. Use a foam bonnet with it.
Also when applying the crystal polish and gold class wax via orbital what pads should I use?
                Foam.
How do you determine weather to use terry, wool, or foam pads?
Terry bonnets have more bite to them, and help the cleaner work better.

Foam bonnets are better at polishing the finish than terry, but you can use foam with a cleaner if the finish doesn't need deeper cleaning.

I would not use a wool bonnet on an orbital...I tried that that one time and scared the paint.
And lastly (I promise ) When using an orbital buffer should you lay it flat and use the entire pad? or use just the upper right 1/4 of it? (if the pad were a clock face you would only let between 12 and 4 o'clock touch the surface)
Always try to keep the orbital flat on the surface...It might be ok to lean into a gap or to work on a scratch...Just be sure to have some product near the edge.

                  *update*
I just got through washing the car and here is what the surface looks like, it hasn't had wax on it in about 6 months (I stripped it to detail it but never got to)

So would you still stick with the current reccomendation?

and lastly there are some scratches on my car like so...
What would you reccomend for them?

I also have to purchase some more clay so which would you reccomend for that?

                      Thanks!

*Relatively speaking* the swirls on your car look to be in the mid-medium catagory. I would think that DACP on a cutting pad at "6" should take care of them (and the scratch) nicely.

I did my parent's 1996 Caprice yesterday (DACP/#82/#20 x2), and it has NEVER been detailed (swirls galore). It also had a close encounter of the bad kind with the handlebars of my nephew's bicycle down the entire passenger side.

I was able to remove 99% of the swirls and about 75% of the handlebar scratch with DACP@ 6 & cutting pad. I think this step took me about 3-4 hours. I followed up with #82 on a polishing pad @ 6 to help remove some of the DACP residue, but mainly just becuse I wanted to. I topped everything off with 2 coats of #20 (45 minute cure time / 30 minutes apart).

The car is a medium pewter-gray metallic (sorry no pics, my camera is bring loaned out), but the car is stunning,

How about if you dont have the money for a 200 dollar PC? Any other way to remove the scratches? Tried colorx and scratchX and was unsuccessful.

Yes...The product (MPPC) is about the strongest cleaner recommendation that I can make to you, given that you don't have a PC.
I also have to purchase some more clay so which would you reccomend for that?
I have only used 1 type of clay so far, and I liked the way it worked...Here is the link to it.
