  • High-Tech vs. Even Coat applicator

I'm curious about other's opinions. Do you prefer to use the High-Tech applicator pad or Even Coat applicator for applying a certain product? Do you prefer one or the other for using a cleaner, polish, or wax/sealant? In the past I have only used the High-Tech pad and just recently purchased the Even Coat applicator. I haven't had a chance to try the Even Coat applicator yet but will get to it this weekend.

I like the even coat applicator. It is more friendly on the hands. It also has more bite, so it is good for using with cleaners, cleaner waxes, etc. The yellow applicator is more gentle and works well too. I still like the high tech applicator for applying waxes. Try them both and see what you think. They both have their place.

Do you toss your Even-Coats in the washing machine, or hand wash after use to get Nxt Wax, etc out? Sort of handwash with Dawn, or something?

This is slightly off thread but I did want to add something about Machine Washing the Even-Coats in a machine. I know there are tons of threads going on this topic (Seams pulling apart from machine washing) and I wanted to throw my own thoughts as of lately in here. When Machine washing Even-Coat Applicators, I set my machine for Delicates. Granted, the aggitator is a lot slower, but I find the life of the applicator is longer. I have washed mine like 4-5 times like this and my Seams seem to be holding thus far. I am sure Megs will not endorse this meathod, but it woks for me.

I throw them in the washing machine with other applicators and terry towels. I let them soak in Tide for awhile and then wash. I let them air dry.

I haven't had a problem with one splitting during washing. I did have one split with me when using Color X though.

I dont use any detergents or soaps when washing my towels and applicators. Just hot water on regular.

I can't say this from personal experience but from what I have seen from others here, it seems that the High Tech Applicators are to least aggressive of the 2. Some searches on the subject should clue you in. I had been using the Even-Coats and still do but for some things that I don't want to get too aggressive with I have gotten in the habit of starting to keep a few high tech applicators with me. For instance, my headlight lenses are very well kept, I wanted to apply protection but did not want to risk more marring than necessary. I picked the High-Tech applicator to work with to minimize the chances of marring. The Even-Coat likely would not have marred but I "think" I decreased the likelyhood of the marring by using the High Tech Apllicator.

I guess I have bad luck, because when I was my even coat applicators on gentle/delicate cycle one time the seams on one part of the applicator ripped off. The applicator was still dirty from the NXT wax (I did use detergent). However, I washed the even coat applicator by hand with a tough grease fighting deteregent, such as Dawn. The applicator came out cleaner than it did from the washing machine. I would recommend washing by hand with Dawn. Its safer and actually cleans better.

I used the Even Coat applicator for the first time this past weekend. I have noticed that the Even Coat applicator is hard to get completely clean. I cleaned mine with laundry detergent by hand and pretty much have it clean now. It just seems to be somewhat stained by the Gold Class wax that I used with it.

I prefer the foam applicators. The microfiber coated applicators require too much product to prime them and are too grabby for me.
