  • Different Types of Meguiar's Clays

    Ok, PLEASE don't bash me if this question has already been asked, but, I'm pretty much a newbie at...

    So, I had a chance to witness Mike perform magic with Clay on Paint, and I was very impressed with the Quik Clay system.

    While browsing the site, I also found two other Clay's offered by Meguiar's: Mild/Aggresive Clay in the Professional Line

    Quick Clay is like $9.99
    Professional Line Clay is like $25.99

    While the price is much higher for one, I would like to use the best Clay for my car possible. But, at the same time, I don't want to use a Clay that may damage the paint if its too strong.

    Could someone share their opinions as to which clay is best used under what kind of conditions/scenarios?

    Thanks,
    Danny

    Well I love my Pro Shop Overspray Clay (More expensive one) You get two thick bars that you could easily be cut into fourths for claying. I managed to get it for $20 and while I cannot compare to the Quick Clay, I imagine Pro Line(Mirror Glaze) is a better quality clay for removing contamination. That's just my opinion based on what I have read so far.

    Meguiar's also is selling a "yellow" claybar I think? You may want to call and see if you can get that for a decent price (Chaper than $10)

    Even though I only tried the ProShop Clay, I loved how it got rid of almost everything I had attached to my Jeep! Tar, black marks and stuff I never thought would ever come out, wiped away with ease.

    I just wish I had cut it into fourths because one whole claybar chunk is dirty now-even after pulling it and rolling it around in my hands.

      Hi Danny,

      Here's the scoop on Meguiar's Clay bars.

      The clay bars have all been changed to new, better, higher quality clay formulas. The Quik Clay System now has a new clay bar that is dramatically easier to knead, and much less prone to smearing. You can tell if you have the new clay bar because the clear cellophane wrapper that the clay come in has the Meguiar’s logo in black imprinted on it.

      The Clay bars in the Detailer Line, D-6100, (Yellow-Mild), and the D-6200-Aggressive), have been discontinued. The C-2000 clay in the Professional Line has been replaced with a new clay formula that is blue in color and Mild in claying ability. A new part number has been added to the Professional Line C-2100, that is Red in color and Aggressive in claying ability. The C-2000 Mild clay bar is more aggressive than the clay bar in the Quik Clay System.

      In order of aggressiveness, or claying ability it goes like this,

      * Quik Clay
      * C-2000
      * C-2100

      The clay bar in the Quik Clay System kit weighs 3.5 ounces which equals 99.225 grams.

      You no longer get two bars in the Professional line, but one bar and it weighs, 200 grams.

      I don't have pricing for the new Clay bars in the Professional Line, but I should be able to get them tomorrow. I'll also snag some pictures. Anyone attending this weekends Meguiar's Online Members, Detail Day at Meguiar’s will have a chance to play with all of them.

            Thanks for the info guys...

            As I metioned, I'd like to use the best clay possible to maintain the condition of my car, and my concern about using the professional line of clays is, if I use it over area that have paint chips, will the more aggressive clay do more damage than good?

            I only ask because I believe I read on the forum that the Professional (Mirror Glaze) line can be used to remove paint overspray, and I just don't want it to remove areas where I have chips in the paint.

            Should I just play it safe, and use the consumer line - Quik Clay?

            TIA
            -Danny

              Hi Danny,

              If you want to use the New Detailer Mild Clay bar, you shouldn't have any problems. Are you going to be here this weekend at the Detail Day at Meguar's for members of Meguiar's Online Discussion forum?

                Yup... I wouldn't miss it...

                I'm gonna try and make it there a little earlier, too.

                For the most part, the rock chips have been filled with touch-up paint... I'm just thinking that the touch-up paint won't bond to the body as well as the OE factory paint... therefore, the reaction may differ with the clay...

                  When you get their, I'll have the garage doors open, pull into which ever bay is open. I have a twin turbo charged Viper coming early also. I'm going to be compounding his hood to remove some heavy scratches and then #83/PC/W-8006 followed by TechWax/W-9006/PC to the rest of the Viper.

                  I'll be there at least by 6:30am to start making coffee and setting up.

                  See you there! This one is going to be real fun

                    Mike,

                    I'll be there early, but I'm not sure if I'll be quite as early as you.

                    I'll do what I can to lend a hand in setting up.

                    See you saturday!! Can't wait...
