  • Porter Cable 7424 is loud

Is it suppose to be loud? I just purchased mine from Coastal Tools, turn it on at the lowest speed: 1, and it sounds kinda loud. I never owned one before, so I don't know if it suppose to do this or not.

    Hey,

Yep the PC is a little loud but is nothing compared to an old Makita rotary for noise!

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online dccb!

It's probably just relative to what your used to. I agree with Tim on the Rotary however, I would rather listen to the PC any day over the RB.

I thought the same thing, they are loud. Never used a Makita Rotary but I know a Ingersoll-Rand Air buffer is LOUD!

It's loud but I don't think it is as loud as my lawn mower or leaf blower or circular saw even. At least with the PC I can deal with the noise better becaue I am detailing the car at the time.

                Hey whocarez,

                Welcome to Meguiars Online

Yea the PC sounds like you dumped sand into it. I have the 7336SP model from Lowe's. There all the same except for the 7428 I think it is model, that's the rotary. It's normal. I've had mine for almost a yr. I've done a full size truck, my own truck which is not full size, a van and a car amongst others. It's perfectly normal and it doesn't give me any beef.

In my neighborhood, there is always and I do mean always at some point or another there is a lawnmower running. Both regulars and tractors. Those get annoying after while deadman98

I guess I'll be the odd ball here...

My PC is not that loud...At least it's not to me.

As a matter of fact, it is the quietest power tool that I have.

Maybe mine was geared just right.

To listen to music while using any power tools, I always use the ear-bud style earphones on my mp3 player, and then top them off with some muffs. That way, I don't even hear the wife!
