  • Eeek! This can't be a good idea.

A friend of mine is storing his car for the winter by basically throwing a decent car cover over it while it sits in its parking space. I told him to wax it first, but he had the idea to apply the wax, but NOT remove it. He thinks that he can smear wax on it, let the wax dry, cover the car, then buff the wax off next spring.

I think it's a bad idea, but I can't convince him. If anyone has any additional advice I can show him, that would be helpful. He has a really nice dark blue Formula Firebird, and I'd hate to see the paint boogered up.

Sounds like a good way to get wax all over the inside of a perfectly good car cover.

Sounds like it will ruin the car cover. The paint may not get too ruined, as Mike has left wax on before for a couple weeks on purpose, and it has removed ok.

Hmmmm, it's a really nice CoverCraft cover. I hadn't even thought about the wax on the inside of that. I was thinking after 6 months, a thick coat of NXT would be hell to rub off.

The car would be under a cover and not exposed to the elements... This is what breaks down the paint... It is a very unnecessary step.. I don't know that it will harm the paint, but it may be a booger to remove 6 months from now... Tell him to wax it, cover it and wash it off when he pulls it out again next year... He should be ready to roll with a little detailing
