  • First Time Detailer

First of I wanted to say hello to all. I've been reading the forums for that last couple of day's, and I was really pleased to see the way everyone here has the same passion as I do about my vehicle.

So here's my situation. I drive a Black Dodge Ram Quad-Cab 4x4. I got it about 3 months ago. And I noticed some spots on my finish. When I talked to my cousin about it, he said he could take them off. I let him detail my truck, and he left holograms, and very light swirls all over the body. Not wanting him to touch my truck again, I found MOL.

So I did a little research and I think I came up with the remedy for my truck. I just wanted to run it by you all, and see if I missed something, or if any of the steps are out order.

I'm trying to stay in the consumer line of products, since it's my first time.

    1. Wash Truck with Meg's Gold Class Car wash
    2. Quick Clay the finish, and rinse off. I think this step will remove the wax and sealer he used?
    3. Apply ScratchX to remove swirls and a few scratches
    4. Apply Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and remove
    5. Apply Deep Crystal Polish and remove
    6. Apply Gold Class Liquid Wax and buff
    7. Protect with Quick Detailer

Now if I missed anything, or something is out of order please let me know. Sorry for the long post!

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Welcome!

That is a good start, just a few items to mention...

    1. Good. Be sure to use the Two-Bucket System, and a grit guard if you can get one or two.

    2. The claying and cleaning together will remove the wax/sealant.

    3. If you have to do the entire truck, this might be rough, but it will do a good job. Be sure to read the How-To's on scratches, and SCratchX.

    4. If you do the entire truck in scratchX, you wont need this step. This is a mild cleaner, and can be used on future details, when ScratchX is not needed.

    5. Good.

    6. Good. Rememebr two thin coats works best for looks and protection.

    7. QD does not protect, only light cleaning and restores gloss. You will want the Quick Wax after each wash if you want to restore a little bit of protection. You'll probably want to have both in your collection.

      Thanks for the response!

      One last question:

Would the ScratchX help with the swirls, or should I go with the #9 Meg's Swirl Remover?

ScratchX will definately help with swirls. It will remove all kinds of swirls and light scratches from paint. Working by hand, it should be a bit more aggressive than the #9.

As I mentioned, the How-to's are definately important. Work in a small area, and use 2 or so well worked in applications. Using terry cloth, or the even coat applicator will make it easier to remove swirls as well.
