Oxidation Removal

I know this has probably been asked a gazillion times,

But what Meguiar's product do I use to remove oxidation from the hood of a white Toyota Tundra and what is the procedure for doing it correctly??

You are working by hand? How old is the vehicle, how bad is the oxidation?

There are a couple options, so let us know a little more.

It's a friends 2001 White Toyota Tundra. It's a light oxidation and is confined on the hood of the truck, everything else appears to be relatively fine.

I guess you guys are planning to do a weekend detailing for it.. so here are two options for you:

Option 1:

1. Wash - Wash with a good wash like Gold Class or Nxt, using the 2-bucket system.

2. Clay - Clay the paint using Meguiars Quick Clay. This can be hard to find in stores, may need to order over the phone. Clay Magic is an ok substitute.

3. Clean - Clean using ScratchX. This can be applied with a foam applicator, or a piece of terry cloth/even coat applicator for a little more aggressiveness if needed. This can be a little time consuming, so you'll be glad to each do half. Be sure to read the how to remove swirls/oxidation article in the how-to section.

4. Polish - Use a polish like DC#2 to restore the paint some more.

5. Wax - Nxt Tech wax may be a good wax to start with.


Option 2:

1. Wash - as above

2. Clay - as above

3. ColorX - This is a fantastic one-step product. Apply it with some passion, working it in well, using a terry cloth or Even Coat Applicator.

4. Wax - Follow up with Nxt wax.

Obviously, these are for the whole truck. Just work the cleaners and polish in with a little more passion on the oxidized areas.
