  • New Black Car

    Hi,

I recently got a new black car - unfortunately, the dealer finish was less than perfect with lots of swirls on the paint finish.

I've picked up a Porter Cable orbital polisher and the following:

    - Gold Class Car wash
    - DACP
    - Deep Crystal Polish
    - NXT Wax

I'm going to be applying using the PC white spong applicator pads and I've got the 6" polisher pads to remove.

The first attempt was the hood of the car. I've managed to get rid of most of the swirls and the finish with NXT is great. However, there are still some visible scratches (short, maybe 3-4 inches in length). I cannot feel these with a fingernail but they are visible.

How far can I go with DACP?
    Should I try something else?
When should I stop for fear of going too far into the clearcoat?
What speeds on the PC should I be using?

Lastly, I applied the Deep Crystal polish - it was very, very oily, and didn't come off very well with the PC - I finished removing the polish by hand. Is the PC the best way to use the polish?

    Thanks,

    John.

I might think about trying #9 or #82 before jumping to DACP on a new black finish. Remember when it comes to polish that less (abbrasive) is often more, especially on black paint.
