  • dirty lines on windows

I am not really new to car detailing, but recently I have gotten 'serious' about it.
I live in Atlanta, and I drive a 2001 Mustang.
When I roll the windows down partially then raise them back up, there is a line of gunk that is there in the window. I don't know if it is residual soap or oil from inside the door assembly. Is this something that goes away eventually or is there a way to alleviate it? I just have to keep wiping my windos over and over again...help!!
    Thanks,
    Erich

Hmm...I get a little line of dust... but not all out gunk. Can you try wiping down the weather-stripping at the bottom of the window any? Put the window down and try folding it back a little, and wiping?

I had this, what i did to get rid was put the windows right down and using a MF put some HD Interior cleaner and wiped the felt like material under the rubber at the bottom of the window.

Then using a different part of the MF wipe it again to dry (or leave it to air dry depend on the weather. This cleared my problem hope it does yours too

My guess is that Dino is right. The trim on both sides of the bottom of the window can surely trap contaminants that later are spread each time you raise and lower the glass.

If you can't reach from the outside, it might be necessary to remove the door panel and get in there to totally clean those guides, but that's an extreme measure. Doubtful you'll have to do that.

Definitely is annoying. What's worse is when you get grit caught in there and scratch the glass

One note of caution: try not to bend the frame holding the felt or you'll have gaps against the window.

I have been leary of using any products on the trim. What I have found that works well for me is to dampen an MF with Distilled water and rub the window trim down pretty welll then go over it agin with a dry MF. Does a great job of removing the stuff that can be removed.

I figure there is likely enough residual car wash sopa and Glass cleaner in there that once it is remoistened it will cut and grime.

But even after that, when I am wiping the windows and the glass cleaner is still damp, I notice the lines are still there. I rub at them a little but have come to believe that they will always be there. Mine are coming from the rubber seal. I think the constant micro-vibration of the windows as well as them rubber up against the rubber when opening/closing cause this and it it to be epected.

My MF was black with dirt after doing it.

*touch wood* haven't had it come back since. I still do it once a month to prevent the build up of any dirt or grit.

I hope you guys are right about the window trim causing this. I had a similar problem with my F150. However, mine was causing a large spot of gunk and not a streak. Come to find out a wire with grease sealer was placed on the wrong side in the door panel. When I rolled the window down completely it would cause a spot. Came from the factory like this. Guess my truck was built on a Friday!............Hmmmm Wander what 's next.

Well, we can certainly try the simplest thing of wiping down the trim before tearing apart the door panel.
