  • wheel well shine

I have a nice shiny car but the area around my tires is filthy! What steps are used in these wheel well areas?

  • #2
I have been using Simple Green diluted and sprayed up into the well with the Meguiars Foaming Sprayer. I will however soon be switching to APC.

I do not dress the wells, but some people will then follow up with a dressing such as Hyper-Dressing.

    edit:

Let me add that I hose down the wells, then spray the foam in the well, clean the wheel/tire, then hose everything out at once. So not too long of a dwell time.

The APC is a bit safer to use.. The Simple Green can be a bit hard on aluminum apparently if left too long.. So get APC if you can.

Hose down+APC+scrub brush+rinse = perfectly clean wheel wells - simple as that! Follow up with a dressing if you like but I don't think it's really worth it unless you're showing the car...

Well, APC isnt a generic, or general all purpose cleaner like Simple Green. APC refers to the All Purpose Cleaner made by Meguiars in the Detailer Line of products.

Yo ucan get it from Meguiars at the above link, or over the phone. The other option is to find a PBE store in your area that sells Meguiars products. Meguiars.com has a link to various PBE stores.

Oh gosh.. I think it stands for Paint, Body, and something else. It is like a dealer where a repair shop goes for their stuff. They sometimes sell Consumer Line items and accessories, but the Pro-stuff is the main thing. I wont say they always have a lot, but some are really good.

If you go to the Meguiars.com homepage, and click on dealer locater, you will come up to a search. If you click on Professional products, and type in your ZIP, you'll get a list near you.

Check out the link below as there is good info on wheel wells. In the link below I said APC and mean APC in the generic sense of any all purpose cleaner, Meguiar's. I have also used wheel and tire cleaner on the wheel wells without a problem, but test this first.

Though you have to be carefull, I use Superdegreaser (just very carefull where I spray it, I usually spray a mix of carwash and water on the surrouning painted areas first as a means of helping protect them) I hose out the wheel wells, then spray the Meguiar's Super Degreaser at 4:1, let sit for 30 seconds, then scrub with a brush and rinse. I use #40 for to dress the wells, but am soon making the switch to Hyper Dressing.
