  • What better for winter...NXT or #20?

    Morning Everyone,

I'm planning my winter detailing for this coming weekend. In the past I've used #20 but it never seemed to get me through the entire winter......I'm not a fan of waxing in frigid temps.

I'm looking for something to get me through the winter months (Nov to April). What is my best choices for longevity?

Also, I a firm believer that preparation contributes to longevity. My car is silver so swirls and scratches and not very visible....I'll deal with them in the spring. So it is possible my prep last winter was not the best (clayed, Megs #3, Megs #20). Would you have prep'd differently?

What about NXT? Is NXT more durable than #20?

I've been told that Klasse All in One and Sealant Glaze will get me through the winter. I'm a Meguiars fan....so I'd prefer to explore the above first.

    Thanks

    George

    HI George,

After you do your usual winter surface prep, I would apply a coat of NXT Tech Wax followed by an additional coat of either #20 or the new #21. That should help to get you through the winter months.

Why does a product like NXT require additional coats of other products for longevity ? I could never understand why anyone would want to go over a car 3-4 times with various products unless you really enjoy waxing.
Isn't NXT suppose to be the latest/greatest product from Meg ? And it won't last the winter !!

lol, mpmiller, some people DO like to wax a lot!

I always recommend 2 coats of anything, to ensure complete coverage (I might have missed a spot). My experience is that NXT lasts longer than #20 through the winter. Until NXT came along, I used MPPP through the winter.

This winter I'm going to use #21.

I just started using Meguiars products specifically their polishes like #9 amd scratchX to remove light scratches from my black car. I have always used Zymol in the past and it seems to produce a good shine and last a long time. I put some Zaino Z5 on the car last weekend but would like to try NXT. I think I will do half of the hood with each product and see which side looks better and lasts longer in say January.

I'd go with two coats of #20, or #21.... or do one of each, or substitute NXT for one of the two steps.

Any of the products are great, its just a matter of which combination gets the look you want. More than likely, though, you'll find that two coats ARE beneficial.

20 or 21 either one is better than NXT for protection.I dont think youll get more than 3months of protection from either if its a harsh winter.

I thought NXT was the Meguiars longest protecting wax?

Re: What better for winter...NXT or #20?

In my experience #21 and #20 last longer than NXT, even the NXT Paste. Also the #20 is the easiest to work with in cold weather. Overall #20 is the best wax for winter. If the weather is warm enough, you can top #20 with #21 for that extra "pop."

NXT does not normally last for longer than a month or so, though it looks great. Depending on where you live, that may be OK if you can wax once per month.
