  • Which Polish and Wax?

I'm going to use my random orbit buffer for the first time this weekend. I'll be claying the paint work first (and doing a paint clean if necessary), then following up with a polish and wax. Any recommendations on which polish and wax to use:
    • #7 Show Car Glaze or Deep Crystal Polish?
    • Gold Class Liquid Wax or Nxt Gen Liquid Tech Wax?

I have all of them so cost isn't a factor.

    Thanks.

    Well to answer your question as simple as possible and what I would do;

    Polish with #7

    Wax with NXT Liquid

#7 is designed a bit more for machine use, so should be a bit easier to work with, though both would work fine.

Nxt wax is very nice for looks and endurance, though your red car could look good with Gold Class.

After claying, using a paint cleaner would certainly bring your results to an even higher level, though I am sure this isnt your cars fisrt detail.

Incidently, a product like #80 could also be interesting for you, as it is a cleaner and polish in one step, and is meant for machine application.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice. I'll check out the #80 too.

          The Results.

I thought I'd follow up my previous post with the results of last weekend's effort at detailing.

I decided I'd also work on my wife's 16 year old Hyundai (although she's only had it for a year) while I was at it, as the paint was in pretty bad condition and it would be good to practice on. I ended up doing her car on the Saturday and my SS on the Sunday. Both took about 4 hours.

I washed both cars with Nxt Gen Car Wash and then chamoised them dry. Both cars were also clayed. I used the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner on the Hyundai (blue car) using the buffer because of the poor condition of the paint. The buffer was also used to polish both cars with #7 Show Car Glaze. Tech Wax (liquid) was applied with the buffer on both cars.

Here are some photos of the results.

This is the Hyundai after washing and claying but before cleaning, polishing and waxing. The color is slighty different is this photo due to the blue tarpaulin suspended above it to keep the sun away.

Here's the same car after being detailed. This photo was taken out in the open (the tarpaulin had been removed).

Here's the AFTER photo of my SS.

          Some things I learnt:
          • The buffer is a breeze to use.
          • Cleaning and polishing the paint is much easier and much more consistent with the buffer.
          • Applying wax is much faster and much easier with the buffer.
          • Removing excess wax by hand is much easier when it has been applied with a buffer.
          • It's good advice when they say not to remove the buffer from the paint until it completely stops, especially with wax.
          • Lucky I go to the gym because the polishing pads are damned hard to remove from the buffer's backing plate.

          Regards,

          Steve

Looks good, hopefully it reached close to your standards as well

What random/orbitlal buffer did you use?

Can't get the G100 here so I used the Hitachi FSV13Y. I plan to use a different combination of products each time to see which combination gives the optimal finish.
