  • quick question: does dc 1 paint cleaner leave oils behind?

DC 1 has been a fantastic product for me when it comes to removing light tar and rubber from body panels (customers who track their cars)

However, i will be using a light polish on my vehicle that is a polish and sealant all in one product (not klasse aio).

I plan on using Wolfgangs sealant, but i dont want the sealant from the polish to interfer with the wg sealant bonding. So i plan to use megs dc 1 cleaner to clean the sealant left on by the polish, off of the paint.

my concern is, will dc 1 leave any of meguiars secret oils on my paint? or will it leave a surface ready for my lsp.

    thanks in advance !

Look at the paint after using the cleaner. If it looks like it could benefit from some polish, use it, if it looks great already, maybe polish a small section, if it looks better, polish the rest, if not, go to waxing. The cleaner should remove any product on there. Also, many of the waxes include polish, so if you skip the polish and go to waxing, you will still have a very nice looking car.

thanks for the reply, but my question still stands.

will dc 1 leave any oils behind that will hinder the bonding of my sealant to my paint?

I am not familiar with the wolfgang's products, but I believe the cleaner will remove oils from the paint.

Is this sealant a polymer sealant similar to megaiars http://www.meguiars.com/?pro-liquid-...olymer-Sealant

if so, the sealant should be fine going on over a polish. I have applied this polymer sealants over machine glaze and show car with great results.

^^ he is trying to find out if the Meguiar's DC #1 cleaner will leave behind oils. I am sure someone with that knowledge will be along to chime in.

am I confused? DC#1 is a cleaner, #2 is the polish... right???

            From Meguiars.com regarding DC#1:

This non-abrasive paint cleaner has been improved to deliver even stronger performance with no chemical odor. It safely removes road grime, surface contamination, light oxidation, swirls and light scratches to restore damaged and dull finishes. Prepares all paint finishes for polishing and waxing. For most effective cleaning, use with our Even-Coat Applicator and remove excess product with a Supreme Shine Microfiber or Ultra Plush Super Terry.

So I would say that after using the DC#1, it's ready for whatever you want to do.

yes, the cleaner would be making the surface prepared for application of the polish or wax. I don't know the true answer to his question but knowing what a cleaner does I would guess to say that it will not leave behind any form of oils for that is what the polish is used for and the sole purpose of the cleaner is to "clean" the surface free of any substance, but again I think a pro needs to answer this one.

IMO Dc#1 cleaner will not leave any oils nor will it interfere with your sealants bonding....

by the way you can use the polish and the LSP of you choice with no problem but since you choose another brand that has two steps in one plus i have not use that brand cant comment on it .....

i find it better to use a one step product v. a two step product but then again there are alot of variables for other people..

                      Just to clarify

im using dc1 to remove a sealant that will be left behind by an abrasive All in one polish and seal type polish. I'm using the polish because i like its ability to remove defects but i dont want the sealing aspect of it. SO i am using the dc1 to remove the sealant it will leave behind, then using a pure sealant.

thanks for the great info guys! great help. i love this place
