But, My advice would be to go ahead and use the quick detailer as this is your first time out. It is very simple. Just keep the area you are working well lubricated. If you think the clay is feeling a little "GRABBY" on the finish, give it a few more squirts.
Alot of folks do use other stuff for claying. But I would be willing to bet they all started by using the QD that came with the product.
Speaking for myself I have started using Last Touch and plan to try Final Inspection soon as a lube. Some folks put a dash of car wash soap in water and it works fine.
If you go ahead and use the QD for the first time out. Once you are done and have any comments or questions about it, when you post, most folks will be better able to offer comments if they know exactly what you are using. If you use somethinf else, they may not be quite that familiar with what you use or how much soap/water you used. After you clay the first time you will just about be an old hand at it and will then feel more comfortable experimenting with other lubes.
This is just my "feel" on the matter as having recently started claying myself.Jeff Smith
Don't mistake my enthusiasm for experience.
