    Just a random question or two..

    While it is ok to use a polish after something like colorX, to take advantage of colorX's cleaning ability, and then use separate polish and wax steps after to get the best results, will a polish over the wax actualy make it to the paint to replenish lost oils, etc? Or is this only going to be for looks, and not get in contact with the paint itself to help it?

    When we talk about the DA, we say maybe to use 4 pounds of pressure, etc. But when working by hand, say with ScratchX or ColorX, like on on the "Bronco makeover", how hard are we talking about pressing? And should ColorX be worked in like ScratchX, as in the "How to remove Scratches" article? ScratchX may need 3 applications in the same spot to reach maximum potential, is that like ColorX. Or is one well worked in coat, whatever that means, reaching its maximum?

    And does anyone know of good floormats for the winter? My Subaru came with thin carpet ones, or they sell replacement heavy rubber ones. Neither seems good for dealing with slush and water, etc. There are heavy rubber/cloth ones made by L.L.Bean, but they are a tad expensive, with shipping and all.

    Thanks

    well out of all those the only one that I can give you advice on is the floor mats and not even sure if you have already looked into them but I have heard that they are great for slush, mud, snow, etc. That would be the Husky line. Here is their site;

    For more than 25 years, Husky Liners has been proudly crafting products that protect your Truck or SUV inside and out. Made right here in the U.S.A., nearly all of our products are backed by an unlimited Lifetime Guarantee.

        That site only seems to show truck ones though, or did I miss them?

            A quick reply to one question for now...

            You can never completely, 100% seal a surface with a coating of wax. You will always be able to push the polishing oils found in our pure polishes past the wax and into the paint, at least at some level.

            If we drill down further then we start talking about permeable and impermeable, and new paint versus old paint, etc.

            Put it this way, if I'm working on a car, and I want to apply a polish so that I've know I've done everything I can to truly create the clearest, richest, glossiest looking results, then I would never let the fact/idea that I have previously used a wax on the paint stop or prevent me from applying the polish.

              Those Husky ones certainly look interesting.. are they available widely, or mostly online? Some random store was listed for my ZIP code, guess I'll have to find where it is.

              Wish they had the Heavy Duty carpeted ones for cars..

              And thanks Mike, makes sense that the polish still does good work either way. I guess if the paint seems to need polished badly, having no wax is best, but if just for looks it doesnt really matter.

                Maybe I should mention I have those little hook things on the floor to hold the mats in place. I guess I will have to drill a whole through the rubber, no big deal, just have to put a seal around it somehow to keep it from leaking.

                  I've owned a variety of Subaru's for decades & just bought 2 more new ones so the mat I've used the most is the Rallye brand truck mat. Tuff enuff for a Northeast winter yet flexible eniff to be cleaned in cold weather. I buy them & trim if necessary to cover the entire floor & up the sides of the foot well. I daily drive my Baru's 140mi. per diem to jobs 7 days a week. Strauss Auto/Pep Boys/Einsteins Truck Parts are North East sources for them.
