  • water magnet vs. thick natural chamois

I've read up on most of the products I plan to purchase for my detail collection.
can someone tell me in their opinion what's the difference between the water magnet and think natural chamois?
    is it just preference?
I did purchase a water magnet, but have not used it yet. soon I hope.
I don't mind buying a chamois to include in my collection.

    thanks!

The water magnet is a WW MF type of towel that is very absorbant and meant to blot the surface to dry. The chamios is sort of a drag-free type of material that you simply pull across the surface to dry the vehicle, the chamios works better when damp.

I've used other chamois before but since seeing the water magnet, I want to give that a try.
I know that the chamois needs to be damp or semi wet when storing and I guess the water magnet does not.

after washing the car and in the process of drying. is there a actual step to using both of them. or just one will work fine?

With the Water Magnet, you are going to want to fold it into quaters, occasionally flipping to a dryer side. You ring it out when it too wet. Since it looks like you'll be drying a truck, it would be a good idea to get to Water Magnets, use the first to get 99% of the water off, and the second to get the remaining film.

Wouldn't that cause mold & mildew to setup on it?

I actually have a water magnet. When I first used the water magnet, it amazingly dried up the wet surface. When the water magnet was too wet, I wrung it out, but of course could not get all the water out of the water magnet, so when I tried to dry up the rest of the car, it left a little streak of water behind. I think the best thing is to get two water magnets to dry the whole car. Also this was on a Lexus IS300 sedan, so if you are drying up a truck, you will probably need more.

IMO, a chamois first, just one pass, then follow up with the water magnet, would get the best results.

Sounds like a good combo to me.

I have a very nice synthetic chamois that I bought from a place in Collierville (Think I spelled it right) the last time I visited your area......PM me if you would like the details about this place.

I got my chamois from collierville too. At autozone. Its the meguiar's synthetic chamois.

It works well but does not get all of the water. Mini-droplettes are left, but are no big problem, they air dry and leave no mark. But that still bugs me. So I will be getting the water magnet soon to pick up the mini droppies.

?? if you were to buy a meg suede chamois or any high quality chamois since there not microfiber wont the dirt get trap in the same location and end up scratch your paint....versus using a WM....just a thought

so you guys suggest two water magnets....

                      thanks

I have two water magnets just because the first one has seen it's share of drying. I now use the older one for jambs, etc. One trick I like to use: 1st, sheet the water. Hold a water magnet in one habd and a supreme shine MF in the other. with both towels folded into quarters, wipe with the WM 1st then follow with a wipe of the SSMF. Results: no streaks left behind!!

                            no?

do you blot the surface to dry....
but will that remove most of the water....

i do remember someone say when you final rinse to remove the spray gun nozzle and let the water stream off the car so there will be less water on the car......

                            what do you do.....

Yes, blot the surface with the water magnet. You should flood rinse the vehicle before drying to minimize the amount of water on the surface. By blotting you reduce the potential of swirling the finish. QD or Speed Detailer can be used to help provide additional lubricity to avoid instilling any swirls when drying.
