  • cracked clear coat

hey everyone, i'm a newbie here so please take it easy. thanks.

i was taking a look at one of my old cars (95 honda) that has been sitting outside and subjected to 100+ degree heat, no washing, and no garaging for over a couple years. i decided to wash it.

i noticed that the clear coat has many small cracks, that resemble a "Y" shape. small 3 millimeter indentions (scraches) everywhere on the hood. when i run my nail over them, i can feel each and everyone. they look superficial in the clear coat, but i may be wrong.

i tried waxing, but i think the wax has gotten stuck in the small cracks. now the cracks appear to be white w/ wax!

is this a lost cause, or is there something that could help it not look so obvious? thanks guys!

Sounds like a failed clear coat. Refinishing may be in order.

I agree, sounds like clear coat failure. Check this thread out, it may help you to determine:

        to MOL kenzo42!

Sounds like checking in the paint film. Sorry, but if it is you have two options, live with it or re-spray.
