Now that is a very big and open question but for starters I say start out simple and get some clay and try that for some of the rough surface problems and if that doesn't work then take another step up. YOu don't want to go out and spend a bunch of money and buy things that you might not even need, so I say buy one product at a time and see if it solves your detailing problems.

Well, Starting off you will want to review the FAQ and How-to posts in those forum sections. Here are some basic products for you, based on the 5-step system you have read about:

Wash: Use a quality wash like Gold Class or Nxt wash, and the 2-bucket method. With a grit-guard hopefully.

Clay: Use Quick Clay in order to get the bonded contaminants off your paint before cleaning and waxing.

Clean: For scratches/swirls (working by hand I assume), you will need a product like ScratchX. If you dont have swirls, then a milder cleaner like Deep Crystal #1 would be appropriate.

Polish: DC#2 is a good polish for use by hand.

Wax: Nxt Tech Wax is a good, long lasting wax. On a dark colored car, Gold Class Wax can also give great results.

Tires: What tire stuff did you use?

Chrome: For metal wheels/trim/exhaust, Nxt Metal Polysh is a great product to chine and protect.

Be sure to use good quality sponge/washmit, applicators, towels, etc.

Meguiar's has a pretty extensive knowledge base available to anyone who visits the site. http://meguiars.com/faq/index.cfm?fa...al%20Questions . Take some time and read through the FAQ's as they will provide you with a general feel for caring for your vehicle's finish and will most likely answer many of your questions. In addtion, you may want to try doing a RX your vehicle to see what it suggests to use. http://meguiars.com/rx/rx_main.asp . Hope this helps.
