  • NXT Metal Polish Question

    OK Here is one.

I am gettng ready at the moment to Polish up my chrome rims with the NXT Metal Polish. Once done, I was planning on putting a couple of coats of #20 on them to keep them well protected. I know the polish provides some protestion but I'd like a little more as these things are flawless.

Anyway, the thought occured to me about possibly considering putting #7 on the rims before the #20.

Has anybody ever tried this on Chrome at all? I though it might give it a unique look.

Any comments would be most welcome.

I wouldn't use a pure polish on chrome, it wont' really do anything for it. NXT Metal Polysh contains a protective ingredient in it, you could stop right there and have your chrome looking its absolute best.

      Understand Mike,
I just love that wet look I have been getting out of #7 under #20 on my Paint. Be nice to capture it on the chrome as well.

My rims are in pretty good shape. I just finished one of them, to be honest, I can't tell the difference between it and the ones I have not hit yet. I clean them very often and up till now have been using the NXT Spray Wax once a week for the protection. Hit them almost daily with Spped Detailer as well. Just washed today using NXT wash and then Spped Detailed before I even started with the Polish. The NXT Polish finally arrived last week so I thought I would give that a whirl. I am getting ready to pull the XENON light out and compare a little better.

I am applying a per the directions with an Even Coat Applicator and Buffing with an Ultimate Wipe MF.

I'll be sticking my head back in here between doing each wheel to see if any other comments are offered up as I am working.

Gonna edit this one. After closer examination with the Xenon light. I can say I do see a remarkable improvement. I noticed about a 1.5"x1.5" spot I missed during the polishing. Big difference between the polished area and the unpolished.

This polish is doing a little something for me though. I had a few water spots I could not get off with the SD.

All in all I like the Metal Polish. I may go ahead and try putting the #7 under #20 on one wheel tonight and wait till tomorrow and see if I like the look or not. I can always pull it back off and redo.

I am trying to get plenty of protection on the rims as they tend to get carried away with the salt around here. As soon as they salt the first time I will be yanking off the Chrome and remounting the OEMs. Guess I need to pull them out and detail them before remounting. Dang. Something else I got to do now. Jeeze.

Decided to do a little experiment for the heck of it. I recently fell in love with #7 and just had to try this.
I just got finished with it.

          This is what I did:

All wheels were clayed last week and I have been maintaining daily with Speed Detailer. Today I washed all wheels and used Gold Class All Wheel Cleaner on the rims and NXT Tire Cleaner on the tires. Then tonight before beginning I Speed Detailed all the rims using 2 Ultimate Wipes. One to apply and one to remove.

          FL-
NXT Metal Polish w/ Even coat Applicator
          Removed with Ultimate Wipe MF
#7 Show Car Glaze w/ Even coat Applicator
          Removed w/Ultra Plush Super Terry
          #20 w/ Even coat Applicator
          Removed w/Ultra Plush Super Terry

          RL
NXT Metal Polish w/ Even coat Applicator
          Removed with Ultimate Wipe MF
          #20 w/ Even coat Applicator
          Removed w/Ultra Plush Super Terry

          FR
NXT Metal Polish w/ Even coat Applicator
          Removed with Ultimate Wipe MF

          RR
Speed Detailed using 2 Ultimate Wipes. One to apply and one to remove

The three wheels with the extra work all far exceed the untreated. It is still dark but they all appear great. I used the Dual Xenon light to inspect and it is really hard to see alot of difference in the 3 project wheels. I will hopefully be able to see them better tomorrow after the sun comes up and draw some conclusions. I doubt there will a significant difference between the 3 but if there is I will take some pics and see if the pics reveal this then post.

Hehe, I think we are playing thread tag here.

My comments are in the other post. I did not comment on beading. It has been very nasty here for a few days so all are silt covered from road film.

I was finally able to grab some pics today for this. The problem is I no longer have the experiment going. I decided I like the look of
NXT Metal Polysh topped with #7 then #20 (X2). Now I am able to QD the Rim with a QD that helps coat some of the dust and such and hpefully minimize scrtaching. Time will tell but so far scratches are nill.

The #7 gave it just a tad more of a wet look but if it were not for having done the side by side comparison, I probably would not have even caught it. While doing the experiment, other people did pick the one with the #7 and #20 over the others.
