  • Claying Q

I am unsure how to do this, and I'd like to do it correctly. One quick question:

Spay car with QD, whipe off? Spray bar with QD, and work clay bar into car? Or just spray the car with QD un-wiped then work the clay bar into the wet finish?

Clay with the paint wet from the QD, and the bar moist.

And dont think of it as 'working in' unless you have some big stubborn thing stuck there. More just slide and wipe it back and forth a few times, and most all contaminants will come right off.

Also just keeping going back and forth on the paint surface with the clay until you get a nice smooth sound instead of a rough gritty sound which you should have when you first begin claying an area. That is of course unless the paint is already pretty clean and clear of contaminants. Once you have worked an area good with the clay, dry that area off and then proceed to work on another area of the vehicle. Make sure to constantly work your clay as well so you have a clean clay surface with each area.

I'd wash the car first of course. Mist on the QD a section at a time ( I use a lot) gentley glide the clay across the paint w/ over lapping strokes with the QD acting as a lubricant. Spray more qd on the paint in the section you're claying if the bar isn't gliding easily (so it won't scratch your paint) and Wipe dry with a ultimate wipe <- my favorite to use, quik detail pad, or supreme shine MF. ALSO..don't forget to look at the clay bar every now and then to see if it's picking up junk/ looks dirty and if it does, fold it in half and shape it. Keep doing the same section till it feels as smooth as glass.

Be carefull not to drop the clay bar when doing vertical panels.
