I would throw it out, or just use it for the wheel wells. Is a $ 4 wash pad worth risking putting scratches / swirls into your paint?

explore_02xlt, said what I would/ have done. I would spray it with the hose to get as much out as possible, then throw it in the washer machine with some detergent (that contain no junk, something like classice tide does nice) they say to wash mitts on gentle, delicate cycle, but I never do and never had a problem with any of my mitts.

If the mitt hits the ground, I throw it away and always have a brand new one waiting incase these things ever happen so that it won't interupt my car washing. Definately not worth the risk. Those thing are soo absorbent, I don't think you'd be able to get all the dirt out.

Maybe you could use it wash a car that is fixin' to get a full buff & detail.

Spray it and wash it and delegate it to fender lips, tires, under body panels, etc. Get a new wash mitt for paint.

Always have a Paint Only wash mitt and a Tatty Wash Mitt in your arsenal.

              I do.

                Question about this mitt

I washed the mitt the other day, and after I left for work it got thrown in the dryer. It seems the fibers have like melted together (is this right?). Is it OK to use on paint still?

I wouldn't use it on paint.

Sounds like your dryer was too hot to me.

I know I am a little anal about all my washing stuff but my logic is "When in doubt about any towel, MF, Mit etc. Take it out of the cycle. It is all too easy to create Self installed swirls and scratches even when using the cleanest gear. I have scratched my finish by simply swiping at a hard shell bug with a terry.

Take it out of the loop and inspect it with extreme attention. If you have any doubts about it whatsoever. Take it out of the mix. Use it for other applications. Might make for a decent underbody washing aide. Heck, wash the lawnmower with it. Or use it for washing out your wash buckets when done. Need a good Knee Pad???

Wash mitts are not to be thrown into dryers! lol
I too have paint only wash mitts with lesser mits for the fenderlips, stepbars, bumpers etc.

I went out and bought a new one last night because that is pretty much what I thought happened. Thanks

I've had no problem with drying my wash mitts in the dryer, although I don't own a Meguiars mitt yet.

The dryer makes them very fluffy, and it helps to remove any foreign particles that might get trapped in the fibers.

I don't dry my wash mits in the dryer. However, if you do, make sure the dryer is on the lowest heat setting.

If there is any doubt about a towel, mit, etc, becoming contaminated, go the safe route and don't use it on the paint anymore. Usually a good hose down and washing will make everything ok, but it's better to be safe rather than sorry.

Besides, it is relatively cheap to replace a towel or mit, but it can be costly in time and money to repair any damage inflicted by a dirty mit or towel.

There is another way of using the dryer, and that is by setting it on "Air Dry"......It might take a few cycles to get a mitt fully dry, but I think it beats hanging them up to air out.
