Bear with me please, I'm really new to this! I'm restoring an old tractor. Painted the sheet metal in a 1K acrylic, 3 coats. Finish turned out OK (for a 1st timer), but not great. Some orange peel.
So ... I wet sanded with 1200 until smooth (blow dry with air, look for uniform dulled surface, no shiny pits). Followed up with 2000 grit. After sanding, finish is dull, no obvious scratches remaining
Using Porter DA polisher, M105 Ultra Cut & Orange 3.5" pad (because I'm starting on small panels) - I can easily restore the gloss, but I still see subtle long scratches that must be from sanding, but didn't show up before that 1st polish.
QUESTION : How to eliminate those scratches? More sanding with the 2000 grit? Sand with 3000 grit? Be more aggressive with the 1st polishing? I'm a little afraid of burning through to the primer, because I really don't know how thick my paint is. Besides these scratches, the gloss & shine is something I'm very happy with!
