  • how to know when to stop claying

I clayed my truck today before using color x(2 coates),one coat of nxt paste than one coat of nxt liquid. How can you tell when to move on to the next section? I got barely any contaminants off the truck at all?

when the paint feels as smooth as glass & you don't see anything else that needs to be removed.

exactly, when you stop feeling the grittiness, that is when you stop. if you don't feel it when you start, then you car is pretty clean.

I use the feel and sound when the contaminants are removed.

Perfect way to know when you should stop claying is doing the plastic bag test. What I do is get a plastic bag, preferably a ziplock bag. Put your hand in the bag and rub the surface of car. If there is dirt you should hear and feel tiny little bumps. If you don't then your car no longer needs to be clayed

I keep claying until I do not hear that distinct noise of the contaminants being removed anymore and don't feel anything stuck to the paint. Quik Clay is an amazing product....my paint was rough and I clayed it..there was soo much junk in the clay I had to fold it and kneed it out 3-4 times when I was just doing the hood. But I think it's fun and the results are amazing. That's my great story that I'm sure everyone cares about.
