  • getting the right accessories items

I've read up on Mike's tip for a new car.

now, my question is which washing & waxing accessories do I use for them?
with so many choices such as chenille wash pad or ultra plush wash mitt. even the drying accessories. which one to use. even the ones with handles.
I will be doing everything by hand.
I'm sure I can't go wrong with any of the accessories, but wanted more of a "list" of products for my lineup.
Thanks for your help & advise.

When I first started out I had:

Lamswool wash mitt (still prefer these to this day)
A heap of micro fiber cloths
    A heap of sponge applicators
    A waffle weave drying towel

Now I have all of the above plus:

    Terry applicators
    Terry towels
    Ultra safe wheel brushes
    Versa angle wheel face brush

I'll soon be adding just about every other Meg's accessory. Since I've started detailing full time, I've rapidly realised that you can never have too many different tools for the job.

I think I can honestly say I own all of Meg's accessories and do use them all. All are great products in their own right. Some folks prefer wax removal with MFs some with Terry's. Mostly a matter of personal preference rather than one being better than the other.

Everyone's process has it's own special needs. So it's hard to make a list up for someone else. My advice would be to think about what you already have that you use that works well. Then build on that. Over time, when your current stuff wears out, replace it as needed but with whatever Meg's has to offer. It can get a little pricey to up and do a complete switcch over to Meg's products all at once. I did it and love it but it hurt the old wallet. I would not recommend it if the finances are not strong.

I will point out a few products that I think are outstanding and I would highly recommend them are:

      All-Surface Interior Brush

      Versa-Angle Wheel Face Brush

      Versa-Angle Body Brush

      Versa-Angle Tire Brush

      Supreme Shine Microfiber

      Ultra Plush Super Terry

      Microfiber Quik Detail Pad

      Grit Guard Insert

      G-100a

All these products I find great and use very regularly. These are what I would consider basic necessities. But again everybody's needs are different

        thanks for helping out.
I believe one day I will own most of their stuff. but until than, its just a starter kit.
I currently use some of their stuff, but wanted to expand to a more complete range of products.
such as the scrubbers, towels, mitts, etc.
like you said, its preference and what I like when I see good results.

do you think those package deals are ways to start up a collection?

With just working by hand, certainly the Gold Class package is a nice starting spot, or even the 'new for 2005' package if you want a bit of everything. Not a bad way to save a few bucks, though I will mention there seem to be a few products in each I dont use. They are good products of course, but make sure they are what you want before they end up sitting on the shelf.

Also, check out the number of each item you are getting. For instance, the Gold Class Package has one terry, one supreme shine, one water magnet and one applicator. You are probably going to want at least 3 of each, if not more.

              very true Murr1525.
I'm making a list of items I will probably use. like you said, I will probably need 3 or more of a particular item.
I'll need to call customer service to see if its better to purchase online or at my local auto store.
not sure if I factor in shipping cost, it might cost more than if purchased at store.
They have a detail store, but its not often or easy to drive out there.
maybe just buying it at the store is better.
              thanks!!

My things are definately a mix of both phone orders and some pepboys/autozone trips.

I can tell you the Quick Clay is best ordered over the phone, as it seems rare everywhere.

I agree. The Quik clay I had to order direct from Megs. I checked at least 6 places here in MD for it. I also agree to buy multiple towels, pads, etc.

Although the Duofiber Glass towels clean glass well using NXT Glass Cleaner, I am having the same lint problem as others lately. I have to use a clean microfiber towel to try and get the lint off the windows after cleaning with the duofiber. Bummer.

I bought things at Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Pep Boys, Target, and Megs. Am now deciding who to order the Dual Action buffer from, Megs or Auto Detailing Solutions (as I need all the pads and products for it, too.) Any suggestions?

Also, I know if you buy enough stuff in one order, Megs can waive the shipping costs!! This really helps even out the field when some items are sold for a little less elsewhere.

The Megs one has a lifetime warranty. Does the autodetailing one count as Megs with a lifetime warranty? If so, it just comes down to price.

Yes, Auto Detailing Solutions has a lifetime warranty also. But I wonder who would be better to deal with in the event of a problem; Megs or ADS? I would think it would be better to deal with Megs in that event. After all, the DA is built especially for them by PC.

It just seems ADS has a better deal on the DA package overall based solely on price. But I know Megs will waive the shipping cost which could be high because of the DA.

Same here. I am down here in Southern MD and there was none to be found. I ordered through Meg's and it was on backorder. SO I finally bit the bullet and bought mothers. Then of course Meg's came through and their order arrived. Now I have decided to switch to the detailer line clay and use last touch as the lube. I think cost wise it will be better for me. I tend to invite friends over and we detail together and the first rule I give out is nothing touches the ground. Unfortunatley the first thing dropped is the clay. Since then I have found several sheet of thin neoprene that make excellent drop zone covers and also has proven great for my knees

I deal with both and can say that Customer Service through both is well above PAR.
