#2, #9, #7 and NXT Wax?

I have 97 Malibu that hasn't had cleaner, polish or wax in two years and was hoping that some of you may have some advice for me. I've been using Meguiar's consumer products for years and noticed that the proffesional products seem to be more effective with machine application. The car has always been garaged since it was brand new and the paint is in good shape. It does have swirls that I would like to get rid. The swirls aren't bad at all for an eight year old car as I have seen new cars with a worst case of swirls than mine. Anyway, I was thinking of using the following products with an orbital because I don't want to dish out the $200+ for the G-100 just yet.

Fine-Cut Cleaner #2
Swirl Remover #9
Show Car Glaze #7
NXT Tech Wax

I have just recently gained some small experience with some of the polishes and such and my recommendation, not having seen any pics, would be to go with #80 first (after claying). Then make you decision on what to proceed with from there. Meg's recommends starting with a the least agressive product you think will get the job done. It does not sound like your problems are all that bad so starting with #2 may not be necessary.

Before all the others chime in here, you might wish to note what orbital and pads you will be working with. Also some pics would be wise. It's hard to recommend much without a pic or 2.

i'm speaking from experience on this one.... Don't use Fine Cut Cleaner unless you have a PC. Even if you had a PC I would still avoid it. I tried using it before I had a PC and just used a cheapo walmart orbital with it, and spent almost 20 hours plus more than a hundred dollars on a PC to fix the problems.

The problem is that a cheap orbital cannot spin fast enough to break down the abrasives in #2 so it just stays there and spins around, scratching (marring) your finish. I found a friend in #83 when I need big swirls taken care of, but will almost never use #2 again.

Just my experience, take what you want from it.

Specifically, they are more effective at removing defects by machine.

As mentioned, the traditional orbital buffers are not effective at removing swirls, i.e. removing paint, they are too too gentle.

I have the large, inexpensive, fixed speed orbital buffer. It sounds like I should just go ahead and invest in the G-100 and some of those pads.

Any more suggestions?

Well, uh Hmm. It's hard to help without much more info.

I can offer some general advice on the DA though.

It is recommended to buy one separate pad for every product you wish to use. You can go here for suggested pads:

Hello, here's a quick question. Fine - Cleaner #2 can be used w/ G100a...correct? Also, is #2 more aggressive than #83? or other way around.

The brand new version of M02 can be used by Hand, DA or Rotary Buffer, the older formula is formulated for use by Rotary Buffer only.

Simply read the back label and see how it recommends the product to be applied.


The bottle on the right hand side of both of these pictures is the new formula.





When all other factors are equal, here is the order of aggressiveness with M80 being the least of these three products and M83 being the most aggressive out of these three products.
