  • Fairly Heavy Oxidation

I have just gotten a 1990 pickup that is dark blue but due to oxidation and neglect appears charcoal.
should I use color x? if not what? I don't have a machine buffer. Thanks.

If you have color X give it a try, it seems to clean oxidation fairly well. Remember to work it in, not just wipe on. If its not aggresive enough (I think it will) try Scratch X.

As indicated by Ranger72. The ColorX may need to be applied a couple of times. It may look kinda blotchy the first time (or even 2) around. Just remember, this may be a single stage paint and your gonna get a lot of color on your applicator and wiping towel if it is. If it's clear coat, your shouldn't see much.

        Oxidation

Thanks very much to you both for the quick information - it is not clear coat so will be expecting heavy coloration on towels

Is it the same color as the bronco II? Just Wondering.

            Color

It may be the same as the Bronco once I get it cleaned. I did find a color chart and in 1990 there was only one dark blue for Rangers Twilight Blue Metallic Clearcoat. I hope mine comes out close to that. As I said before it looks more charcoal than blue right now.
Thanks too for the clay suggestion - I haven't needed it before so haven't thought about it.

              Hi frankiemysams,

              Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

ColorX and a little passion behind the applicator pad should do the trick, sometimes a second application in the worst areas will help.

Claying is fantastic even on brand new cars, so it is always great even if you dont think you need it. Depending on how bad the oxidations is, it may take a couple applications of ColorX, and even a round or two of claying to get best results. Sometimes the best results come the second time around.
