  • Need advice on order of usage

I have DEEP CRYSTAL #2 POLISH and MACHINE GLAZE #3 and want to apply these on my truck.

I was/am under the impression that the polish should be applied before the glaze but I notice on the #3 that it is a "1" on the Low Cut/Heavy Cut aggressiveness scale.

If I apply the polish first will the glaze defeat the purpose of the polish? In other words. will the glaze cut more than the polish

Or would it be best for me to apply the Glaze first then the Polish?

Not sure of the proper order here with the use of these 2 products.

    HI Jeff,

Both DC#2 and #3 are pure polishes. As such, you really need to use only one of them before your LSP. My preference would go with the #3 as I have used a ton of it over the years. It is designed to be used with a machine but works very well by hand as well. A combo I really like is #80 + #3 + #21x2!!

Thanks fella, Glad to see you are still around.

I'll be using the DA. Even bought another one yesterday.

Just out of curiousity though. If one were to use both of these products, which of the 2 should come first?

I have been doing some experimenting around here on multiple cars and was thinking about running with this for the heck of it. I have a whole week here off and am just playing with several vehicles trying different products out.

        Hey Jeff,

Any cleaning action with a pure polish is a function of the application material used. So for #3, because it is a machine applied product, it is assumed that the buffing pad material may provide a slight cleaning effect although the product itself does not contain any ingredients with the intended purpose of cleaning the paint. Therefore, if both are being applied in the same manner, it really does not matter which product is applied first. But if I had to make a choice, I would use the DC#2 first followed by the #3, just IMHO.

        Thanks for the kind comments!

          Just to chime in...

I know it can be confusing but the words/terms Polish and Glaze are kind of interchangeable.

Meguiar's makes two kinds of polishes, pure polishes and cleaner/polishes, as long as you know which ones are which and the function of each the name on the bottle becomes less important.

            Thanks Guys,
Like I said, I am on vacation and have been playing around with various Cleaner Polishes for the past few days. Now I am looking at playing with the Pure Polishes and seeing the "1" on the cut graph kind of threw me.

One thing I am having a problem with is trying to figure out when the product is broken down. Some of the Polishes thus far I have tried are white and I am working on a white truck. Makes it kinda hard to see of they have broken down or not.

So, that being the case, I sticking to the general rule of thumb of applying a circle of product just outside the backingplate perimeter. Then working about a 2'x2' area and with slow hand movements making sure I slowly pass over every square inch about 3 times.

That seems to be what everyone recommends. Hopefully it will work out alright.
