  • Differences?

Hey guys, could someone help me with some/all of these products? I'm looking to know what's the difference and when/how often the products should be applied.

    M0616 Professional Cleaner Wax

    M2016 Polymer Sealant Wax

    M2616 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax

    Thanks,

    1. Cleaner waxes (professional or ColorX or consumer line) are used for quick detailing, where you may only have time for 1 or two steps, such as:

    1. Wash
    2. Cleaner/Wax

On my daily driver, I actualy do this method more often:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay if needed
    3. ColorX
    4. Nxt Wax

The cleaner wax contains paint cleaners, polishes, and wax, so it does cover all of the importnat steps. #6 and ColorX also have diminishing abrasives that can remove light swirls.

    2. Polymer Sealants (#20 and #21) are pure polymer waxes that are good to apply with the DA. They are long lasting, and I think give a nice gloss and pull out the metalic flake in some paints.

    3. #26 is a carnuba wax that looks excellent on dark colors and really give a deep rich look. Goes on nice and easy, and wipes off easy.

As far as how often to wax, that is hard to say. Really have ot evaluate the finish yourself, and see when it needs a waxing.

So #26 wouldn't be of any benefit to a white car? I have a good conception of how often to wax (3-5 weeks for me), I just thought in conjunction with the cleaner waxes and waxes, how often to apply the cleaner waxes. Sorry for any confusion, and thank you for replying!

        Applying the polymer sealants:

Do I apply before or after a full wax job?

Well, I am willing to bet a lot of people here use #26 on white or other light cars. No polish or wax is going to give its best 'look' on white. The true test is black, and #26 looks fantastic on black.

I have a daily driver, kept outside, and this is what I do every month and a half or two: (working by hand at the moment)
          1. Wash with Nxt/Gold Class wash
          2. Clay if needed
          3. ColorX
          4. Nxt Wax - (this is similar to #21)

5 Then washing every week or two, with Spray Wax.

The cleaner waxes will remove other waxes on the surface, so it is best to use them as a base, and top with Nxt, or #26, etc. Your 5 week detail might look like this:
          1. Wash
          2. Clay as needed
          3. #6
          4. #26, or #20, or #21

          5. Then wash at least once maybe in between, with a Spray wax if wanted.

The polymer selants are the full wax job, so right after the cleaner wax like I showed above is perfect.

So I could do 20/21 then 26? Or vice versa? Its kinda hard to fully understand 26, or 21, or 20..

            But I got the point..

            Thanks again!

Which would you use? #66 or #6? For prep..

Swirl Remover before or after prep?

Well, maybe a word about layering. Meguiars recomends 2 -3 layers of wax, 2 being most common. Therefore, the cleaner wax will count as one layer, then a layer of whatever you put on top would be 2, which is perfect. 3 is fine, but anything more stops giving any real benefit for your time.

Secondly, the wax put on top will generaly give most of the look. So if you put #26 on last, then that will give the look. If you are going to top with #26, then a layer of #20 underneath is fine. Some folks like the bit of durability from the polymer wax, with the look of #26 on top. But if you are going to have #20 on top, then you might as well only use #20.

So the reason I said "#21, or 21, or 26" is because just one of those would be fine, and give the recomended 2 layers. Using #20 and #26 together for 3 layers would be fine as well.

Its kind of a bunch of options.

I have never used #66, though my gut tells me it may be a little more agressive than the #6. But I am not sure.

In your signature line you state you're a 100% Meguiar's user?

Did you look at how you spelled Meguiar's? Go out to the garage and grab one of the bottles of Meguar's products you have an check the spelling...

Actually, cleaner/waxes are for the majority of the population, people that only want to wash and wax their cars, as such they need a quality product that will clean, polish and leave behind a wax protection.

Using a cleaner/wax doesn't mean getting a mediocre finish or doing the job quickly. If you take your time to work the wax... your results will look great.

I used M06 for years before moving onto multi-step process details and always produced excellent results but I didn't wipe it on and wipe it off, I took the time to work the product into and against the finish. Remember, part of your results from a cleaner/wax come from the wax while the other part comes from you!

Mike, that mistake was LONG before Meguiars name is becoming more and more popular amoung me and my family. My mom loves the results, and is spreading the word at work on how amazing her car looks.

I bought just a few Meguiars products, fell in love with what I had and had to expand using more and more products.

I have some pictures, but I need to figure out how to crop them to the right size. They will be up shortly.

Main goal is to get the car in its best state possible. The paint on the car is excellent, but minor scratches on the bumpers call for a repaint.

I am also going to do detailing on the side very soon.
