cleaning tires

I have recently purchased UNCOATED wheels and I used to use Belach white on my tires when I had the fatory wheels on but now with the AL wheels I dont want them to get eaten by the bleach white. the thing is though I could get the tires looking awesome with my bleach white method.

Does anyone know anything that I can use on my tires that will not eat my wheels?

How often do you wash your car?

IMO with weekly washings, you shouldn't need to use something that strong. I just use some car wash to scrub the tires down.

You could use a wheel cleaner for your tires, but not all tire cleaners are safe for wheels.

I have always had good luck with just some normal car wash soap like Gold Class Soap. I do wash my truck 2-3 times a week so nothing really has time to stick on.

I try to use the most gentle cleaner I can on my tires and wheels, like car wash soap. Yes it may take a little more time to clean my wheels and tires by not using a spray on cleaner but.... they are way to $$$$ to expirement with anything and a good pair of wheels and tires can make a car!

Wheels are too expensive to try something that you're not sure about. With that in mind, I would highly suggest buying a dedicated wash mitt for the lower portion of your vehicle, including your wheels. Elbow grease and a quality car wash like Gold Class or NXT Car Wash is, definately, the safest method.

I have tried the gold class wash, and the soft gel. while both are very nice they just wont get them as clean as I want them. the soap will not get the tire shine residue off of the tire, plus mud too.

I wash my truck once a week, or when ever it gets dirty which comes first.

also what is that next to my envelope? I thought it got closed for some reason

I have never had UNCOATED wheels... would a metal polish be good for them? Anyone tried Gold Class Metal Restorer in such a situation?

I typically wash the tires and wheels on the Mustang with the same car wash I use on the paint. Along with a tire brush it seems to work just fine. I would avoid harsh detergents. For one thing they tend to aggrivate "blooming" which is the browning you typically see on your tires. Harsh detergents tend to strip the chmicals from the tires that are designed to protect it from UV.

I scrub my tires clean every other month with a Black & Decker Scumbuster. That's a battery operated hand scrubber. It comes with just the right brush head for really cleaning the tires off.

Try this.

This product can be left on to dry without harming anything...But I heard it is being discontinued.

Shop around at the auto paint stores to find it by the gallon...It can be used full strength, or diluted 1 to 1.

The Citri-Gel Multi Cleaner sure sounds like its some useful stuff! Might just have to pick up a gallon.

I use Bleach white on my white lettering part of my tires.
There is nothing else that works out there as good as that.
I try not to get it on the rims. I have no problem with good old fashion elbow action but after you apply tire dressing and it sits on the tires for a week or so the lettering get dirty and even with the wire brush i can get it as bright as with Bleach White.
I also use bleach white in the wheel wells and rinse it off really good.

Try Extra All Surface Cleaner

I use Meguiar's EXTRA All Surface Cleaner on my tires. They are not whitewalls, but as soon as I spray the stuff on, brown dirty residue starts running off of the tires. It is a great product.

BTW, it also works really well on cloth upholstery. I used it to remove a grease stain and now that section is so clean that the rest of the seat looks filthy!
