  • There is smear on the only hood after remove NXT tech wax ( liquid ).

Hi, i am beginner on car care.

I use NXT tech wax ( liquid ) after washing the car, the apply the wax evenly on the all area of the my car ( emerald green, good paint surface ) by using Meg's applicator and remove the applied wax by using ultimate towel after 10-30min.

But, there is some smear in the only hood ( the rest area show clean and gloss and shine ). this smear is disappeared after 1 or 2 days without any other action.

The hood of the my car is not hot but slightly warm state, Do this condition of the hood cause the remained smear in the hood ?
    or what other cause ?

I applied gold class wax before a week, sameway. but there is not smear on the hood.

    Why ?

    Please some information to me.

    Thanks.

    Hi viewbox,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Those smears can be the engineered synthetic polymers in the product that have not fully set-up and require some more time to pass, or possibly a lack of uniformity in application and removal which a second application will even-out.

Also when making your final passes to remove any polish or wax, try this,

      Hey viewbox,

I too have had the NXT smears but found I can buff them out with a MF towel (make sure it is a fresh clean one for the final buff). The one thing I found out about the smearing I had was this:

When I wax, I pour a small amount of the NXT onto the applicator. Then, I would smear a couple of lines (like draw horizontal wax lines every 8” or so apart) on the fender to spread the product. This application would be followed by going over the whole fender in a circular motion to evenly spread it out and then let it dry. When I buffed these areas, I could actually see the smear lines I initially drew. I would of thought spreading the product evenly out in the circular manner would have eliminated this smear effect but for whatever reason, it did this and now I only apply the NXT product in the circular motion only and have no issues.

I've noticed the same thing. Like Mike said, a second coat should eliminate the smearing.

BJClarke - your observation of the straight lines showing up as smears has got me thinking: could it be that the NXT wax is so "strong" that it adheres so well to the initial surface that it doesn't spread as evenly? Almost as if it is "too strong."

Another thing I noticed last night. I detailed my car two weeks ago and the latest wash was Friday evening. I used Speed Detailer last night (Sunday) and noticed smearing on the hood. I applied some more SD with a fresh MF towel and it went away. Is it possible that after two weeks, the wax hasn't fully set up? If that's the case, my car will look better than it already does once it does set-up!!

Once NXT has been applied it takes about 24 hours for the polymers to fully setup. In your case 2 weeks? you probably didnt wipe the excess wax enough or applied to thick. Sometimes after I wax my car and wiped it down the next day I see some smear or white haze. I simple just wipe it off, its just thick wax that I didnt wipe good enough. Also NXT isnt the one who spreads evenly its you the person thats applying it evenly. Its impossible to spread NXT evenly across your car, that is why 2 coats will possible cover the parts you missed.

It's nice to see that other people have the same problem I do

I went down to the car last night to put a final layer on the hood (some parts of the hood has up to 4 layers already but I had to remove a couple of swirls on other parts of it, might as well go over the whole thing again)...

Anyway, even within my garage I could see the smearing and the variation in color ... Hopefully those areas will have gone away by the time I get back to the car tonight.. Hopefully.
I did try to buff the areas out (they look like really wet parts on my black car) but no difference.
