I'm sad. Swirls? Help me get rid of them!

    I am crazy, but that's not important now But I'm sure I see finger tracks (4 parallel lines) in several different areas. How much hand pressure are you using to wash & wax? Unless you're trying to really work a product for defect removal, any touching of the finish should be more of a 'wiping' process.

    When you go to correct these problems (assuming you're working by hand) use your entire hand, both palm and fingers to more evenly distribute the pressure. Plus fold any application/removal towels into quarters to create more of a soft pad rather than just a layer of cloth between your hand and the finish.

      Thanks guys. At first I thought it was something I did by washing, but the car wasn't that dirty and I just don't think there is any way I could cause that much damage simply by washing. I didn't apply near that much pressure. It's all up and down both sides, I did not notice it on the top or hood but I didn't look that close.

      I have some ScratchX that I'm going to start on one door with. This is going to take a long time.

      I'm going to call the dealer and see if they are willing to look at it and what they are willing to do (if anything).

        History has shown that letting most Dealerships detail your car's paint will result in the Dealer Installed Swirl Option, (DISO), if they say they will fix it for you, I would personally want to see what they going to touch your car's finish. If they show you one of these,




        and hopefully some quality products then you'll probably be okay, if they dodge showing your or telling you how they'll do the work then you might want to run for the door.

        Sorry, but that's kind of the history of dealership details.

          I agree with Mike. I would avoid going to the dealer. They can say we can fix that and then charge you money to further worsen your paint. I woudl invest money into the proper tools and do it yourself. Plus when you get the tools to do the job you will find yourself doing other peoples cars on the side for a little extra supply money

            They told me they would have to look at it to see if it is in fact buffer swirles. They said whether it is or isn't they'll work on it "to my satisfaction" under 1 year warranty. So I'm going to at least go let them look at it and talk to them about it.

            When you aren't looking at it right after being washed in the direct sunlight it's not noticeable, so hopefully they aren't as deep as they appear.

              Like Mike said above, I'd ask to see what kind of tools the detail man uses.

              If they are going to polish your car with a wool pad and compound, and then finish it with a coat of wax, you would be better off doing it youself by hand, or with a G-100.

                Well, I ended up taking everyone's advice here and I decided to try and get these out myself by hand.
