  • Claying

I have only watched my bf use the clay before and it was over a year ago. I need to do it my car hood, how would i go about and use it. I just need a descriptive detail on how to use it, how much and how much pressure to use. I am trying to remove Type I waterspots.

    Thanks

    Heiress Hilton,

    Claying is easy to do.

    1) Of course the car should have been washed before starting
    2) I assume you have the Clay Product already
    3) If you bought a clay kit, it most likely came with a soution like Quick Detailer.
    4) For starters, tare the clay bar you have in 1/2 or 1/3 and use this piece for the vehicle. The remainder piece should be put in a safe place so it does not fall on the ground and get all kinds of crud in it. This spare piece most likely can be used for future claying jobs.
    5) With a clean surface now, spritz the area with the QD your going to clay. If it's a hood, do like a 1-2 foot strip the entire length of the hood.
    6) roll your clay in a ball, then, squish it flat. This will be your working piece.
    7) Place the clay on the surface and rub it like you would rub a bar of soap on yourself.
    8) If the paint is dirty (contaminated), you will feel the clay drag in those spots. Keep working it until you don't feel it dragging anymore.
8a) Once in awhile, Kneed the clay a bit, roll it in a ball again and squish.
    9) Wipe the area with a Micro Fiber Towel and perform a visual check and feel the surface. If smooth and clean, move to next area
    10) do the entire hood like this but overlap the areas when moving from section to section on the hood.

Hope this helps ya. Good Luck

Just like BJ-Clarke said, its real easy. Just use plenty of QD, slide the clay over the paint, and knock yourself out. If you drop the clay on the ground, throw it out. That is why it is important to tear into 3 or 4 pieces, so you dont lose it all at once.

          Murr1525,

I think I learned what I just posted above from you and Rusty Bumper. So I guess I should thank you guys too.

It is scary when you never did it, so the idea is to obtain the basic information, jump in with both feet and do it and find what works best for yourself. Suddenly, I became a pro (LOL) and then I am telling people how to do it on here.
