  • how to tie in color x & scatch x into my detail

    hey all,

i just picked up some colorx and some scratchx tonight, i'm going to detail my truck tomorrow. here is how i plan.

    -wash & dry
    - polish wheels and dress tires and fenderwells
    - then apply scratchx?
    - then colorx?
    - NXT?

is that a good combination? can i apply color x or scratch x with my PC or do they need to be done by hand?

lol i've got M80 too. so would it not be smart to apply scratch x to the entire truck? what speed and how long to work in with the pc? do i have to wait till the next day to apply wax?

just do one very slow pass of 80 then look at any scratchs that couldnt be taken out by 80 alone and then take a terry cloth and scratch x and rub it good then take 80 and go over those spots again..... then u can do color x... or just go straight to nxt if u dont see any defects left... color x would be great for extra cover up power b/c i found that color x got quite a bit of fillers in it.... not sure though b/c my bottles been sitting for quite a while and i spilled some of the water out be4 i shock it up so mine might be a little thicker now......

Since you’re going to be using a reasonably strong cleaner and/or cleaner/polish you can skip the ColorX and go straight to NXT.

In fact I also have a question regarding ColorX. Some people advise to use AIO to prep the surface first before the application of #21 but I would like to know is ColorX a better choice over AIO, not because ColorX is a Meguiar's product but rather any pro and con between AIO and ColorX as a prep for #21.

Personnally I have not try using either AIO or ColorX before #21, my choice will be #80 than #21. So can anyone who has tried care to give some feedback. Thanks.

Well, I dont know about AIO, but here is some answer to the questions:

                ScratchX is a stong Cleaner.

ColorX is a medium cleaner, polish, and Wax.

                Nxt is a Wax.

However, you arent going to want to use ScratchX every time you detail, so just using ColorX and Nxt by hand in the future is a good system for a daily driver, with ScratchX touchups as needed. ColorX is giving the benefit of some polish without the whole separete polishing step.

ColorX is a cleaner/wax, a combination product designed to save time and effort by doing both at once.

A good combo product will do all its functions well but usually not as well as the best dedicated products. ColorX does a good job cleaning but ScratchX would be even more effective. ColorX protects well but NXT Tech Wax gives higher performance protection. You make the trade-off based on your goals and preferences.

I like to use both dedicated and combo products depending on the job at hand, available time, available resources and my specific goals. It's a choice you make for yourself based on your needs.
