  • Never wash the car?

    Hey,

I have a buddy at work who never washes his car. Everyday when he gets home he dusts it off. With a towel I think. Then every weekend he waxes the car. So every day the car gets wiped off and every weekend it gets a coat of Meguiar's. He uses the NXT now. He used to use the Gold Class. It never sees soap and water. Anyway, I was wondering what other people thought of this. Will this actually keep the paint in good shape and car protected? The car does look nice and shiny although i have never examined it up close.

    Have a good one,

Um it is a bad idea.

You really need water to remove bugs and bird droppings and it is a good idea to rinse dust away...

Applying wax to a dirty car will dirty the applicator and swirl the paint.

He should use water and appropriate car wash shampoo.

Why won't he use water? It drys easily without spotting.

I say just wash. Everybody, with the exception of your friend and a few other wierd people, wash their car in the traditional manner using water.

Serriously. There is nothing wrong with washing a car properly.

I have no idea why he does not wash the car. I never asked him. Also, he dose not use QD or anything when he wipes it down. I think he just uses a terry cloth towel. Seems weird to me. Maybe I will ask him.

Just out of curiosity, you ought to have a good look at it in the sunlight.

I’ll bet it’s swirled up the kazoo.

The sad thing is if he ever does notice that it looks like $#!@ he’ll probably blame it on the wax, not the fact that he was constantly grinding dirt into it.

When it comes to vehicles that don't get washed, even the garage queens I've seen had pretty awful marring. You simply cannot press dirt against dry automotive paint without marring it.
