Hello All. Im new to this meguiars online. I figured id log on to find out more about NXT since i started seeing int in the stores, the weather is getting nice, & I just bought a new car like two weeks ago..... its black (TSX). I previously used Zaino & I loved the shine but its a pain use. I felt like a chemist with that ZFX...... mix just enough..... use it right now...... its no good tomorrow.... whatever you didnt use pour it out....thats right!!! waste it!!!...... Dont let it dry in the bottle!!!.......

After being on the site for one day thursday. I went to lowes & bought a Porter Cable 7336 109.99 & a 215 MPH leaf blower 59.99, autobarn and got NXT wax & NXT wash 29.29. I also got the mr clean thing with the de mineralized water from walmart. 13. & change & some terry bonnets until i can order the right backing plate. ... (i have no wife or kids)

I want to do this all out wash polish & wax.
What I want to know is where do I start.
    This is my idea:
    1. Wash NXT
2.Clay... I have griot garage clay (thinking about ordering "Clay Magic")
    3. ?????? DONT KNOW!!!! I have Scratch X Should I put that on a new car??
    4. I see people listing all these numbers what does that mean ...like # 16 # 27 #28... I wanna know should i get something with a number on it. I tried doing a search but it seems like its one of those things everybody knows about.
    5. NXT wax. with "PC"

I know I made some mistakes so what should I change

My paint condition: I already have light swirls (they came with the car) & I also have these spots like the gloss is bending the light. It looks like somebody took sand paper & rubed it on the car its not a scratch not a swirl... Ill post pics.

I called porter cable & it seems the velcro(hook & loop) backing plate number is 18001. Thats the one griots garage uses. So i guess. I need to get some good applicators pads. So should I get the ones from here...is the backing plate they use 18001.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! You will find this board very helpful there is lots of good info on here to help you out.

First you are going to love the Porter Cable! There is nothing better, this is what I bought when to outfit my PC: Meguiars Backing plate and pads.

Here thing or two that I noticed with your post...

    1. After you clay most wash their vehicle one more time before any other step I know I do.

    2. Meguiars numbers... there are lots of them its just their way of naming a product in the professional line. There is no order to it just an easy way to talk about a product, well that is once you get to know some of the numbers. Makes it easy when you call and order something "send me some #26"!

    Here are a few:
    #26 = Hi-Tech Yellow Wax
    # 6 = Cleaner Wax
    #16 = Paste Wax
    #34 = Final Inspection
    # 7 = Show Car Glaze
    # 9 = Swirl Remove 2.0
    There are many more!

    3. NXT is very easy to use and the results you get from it are great! Easy to apply, easy to remove and very economical. When I apply NXT I always do a second coat 12 hours or so after the first, the second coat really seems to add some depth.

You mean I have to buy all of that stuff. Here I am thinking I went all out spending over 250 in a weekend on car care. Not to mention the back plate & pads I have to get. This stuff is gonna cost a fortune. I didnt even buy anything for the inside.

So wait #26 the wax is yellow???? Is that good for a black car. & I have blue metallic flakes, so it looks blue under sun & street lights.

          Hi CJ...Welcome to MOL!

Call 1-800-347-5700 and ask for a Professional cataloge, and a Consumer cataloge...Ask for a price list too.

I don't think that I would use ScratchX on a new car just yet. I would recommend the W-DAV99 backing plate & pads for your PC...Then use the W-8006 pad that comes with the W-DAV99 kit, along with #82 Swirl Free Polish to remove the paint defects with 1st.

If that isn't strong enough, then #83 DACP with a new W-8006 pad should remove the defects.

These 2 products will remove swirls & scratches, as well as adding tremendous gloss to your new paint.

You can then apply NXT wax by hand with a Hi Tech Applicator Pad (These can be found at Wal-Mart), or with the W-9006 pad (It comes with the W-DAV99 kit too), and your PC...Be sure to remove each product with a clean, dedicated 100% cotton terry towel or a micro fiber towel.

While your at it, I would order the PES101V video, or you can watch online videos at this link...These videos will teach you the proper use of Meguiar's products, as well as the proper use of your PC.

Edit: Shop around at the local auto paint & bodyshop supply stores, as they may have some or all of these items I listed...If you decide to order from Meguiars, it would be a good idea to order the M-9912 dispenser bottles to fill up with #82 & #83...They are easier to handle than the 32oz product bottles.

Meguiar's waxes will not dry white, or discolor your paint finish...Just be sure to tape off any plastic trim edges or molding before applying a wax.

You think I may be able to find the backing plate in a store.
Is it ok to use the pads I got those terry cloth covers from wal mart to cover that monstrosity of a pad that came with the PC. Can I use that in the mean time.
What about an older car my mother has a 2002 tl type s thats black & in horrible shape she car washed all the time. What should I use with that. When I got my PC she said good now you can do my car with it. bad shape any suggestions on that.

Maybe, but not at Wal-Mart, Target, etc. I would check the yellow pages for Automobile Paint, Bodyshop & Equipment stores...They would most likely be the place to find the backing plate W/foam pads.

Is it ok to use the pads I got those terry cloth covers from wal mart to cover that monstrosity of a pad that came with the PC. Can I use that in the mean time.
I have never used a PC with the above mentioned pads & covers, but I guess it would be better than doing it by hand...I used to use a Sears 10" Orbital machine with terry & foam bonnets before I learned about the PC.

Your PC is a good investment, but I highly recommend that you purchase the kit that I mentioned earlier in order to get the most out of your buffer.
What about an older car my mother has a 2002 tl type s thats black & in horrible shape she car washed all the time. What should I use with that. When I got my PC she said good now you can do my car with it. bad shape any suggestions on that.
ScratchX can remove swirls & scratches, but it is not recommended for machine application...What I mean is, ScratchX will gum up on the PC pad surface, due to heat generated by the action of the buffer on the paint...ScratchX works better by hand application.

If it were me, I would use the PC with DACP & a W-8006 pad on the 5 setting and work the product into the finish (A section at a time) until it the product is semi-dry, but not completely dry. Wipe off the product while still damp & inspect the paint...Redo if necessary.

You can then finish up with #82, & NXT.

There are other products made by Meguiars that might work with your setup for now, such as: Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner & Clear Coat Body Scrub.

Some, or all of these produducts can be found at most discount stores, or auto parts stores...Deep Crystal is the mildest cleaner of the three, and Medallion is the strongest.

One last word...When you wash your car, use a fuzzy wash mit with a bucket of soapy water, and a bucket of clear water. Always rinse your wash mit in the clear water before dunking it in the soapy water. That way, you won't be putting dirt back on you car's finish...Lastly, do a final rinse with a gentle stream of water from the top down. This causes the water to sheet off instead of having water drops all over the paint, and thereby reducing drying time.

Edit: I forgot to mention the part about claying the finish after washing & before buffing.

I used clear coat body scrub for my Civic (white) it may be about 2 or three years old is it ok to use if I shake it up. Its just been sitting around.

Im just now becoming extra serious about car care since I got a black car. I sold my civic & bought a black on black RSX Type S last June & traded it for a my TSX a few weeks ago. So I made a few mistakes with the RSX with it being my first black car & I wanna do right by the TSX from the begining.

Two buckets!!!!! Brilliant!!!! I would have never though of that.

Thanks Ive been doing the final rinse with that Mr Clean purifies water, but not from the tp down. Thats my new hose attachment I wash my car with. The car wash they sell wasnt bad but I used it all & I dont plan on getting anymore. But thats a good idea. Ive just been spraying it wherever. ...TOP====>DOWN.... Got It!

I want to post pics but whenever I upload them they dont take. Right now im on a quest to find the 82 & 83. do they come any smaller that those huge water towers there pictured in.??

If the product has a watery look to it, then I would call Meguiar's 800# and ask for a new bottle to replace the old one...If it looks creamy then it's OK.

Maybe the file size is too big...The picture size should be no bigger than 700 pixels wide in order to upload.

Here is a link to some free software that you can use to shrink the size of your photos...Set the width to 700, and the height to a ridiculously high number...Leave the other settings at default.

                              Hey CJ,

Meguiar's #5 New Car Glaze is not really meant just for new cars. It is designed as a glaze like Meg's #7 Show Car Glaze. But #5 is for areas that have higher humidity where product removal is more difficult.

Other than that, I think Rusty has done an excellent job pointing you in the right direction!

I would suggest the following must have products:

                              #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
                              #82 Swirl Free Polish
#81 Hand Polish (similar to #7 but designed for clear coat)
                              NXT Tech Wax

                              Cheers!
