  • NXT wax (liquid) and streaks....

Can someone tell me the reason that I would get streaks on my paint after removing NXT liquid wax? Is it that I am using too much product, letting it dry too long, not letting it dry long enough??

Would the paste work better and does it have the same (visual) appearance as the liquid?
    Thanks!

Streaks can come from a number of different reasons,

      Too much product
Not dry at removal, too dry at removal
Paint not clean, needed to be pre-cleaned with a paint cleaner
      Wipe off material

      What are you working on?

Try applying a second coat to a small area, say one quarter of the hood. Make this coat thin, working it into the finish well using overlapping circular motions. Allow it to dry until it swipes clear. Then remove using your softest microfiber polishing cloths.

'68 camaro (red) with single stage.

Paint was polished professionally by an individual from the Autopia web site a few months back. His work was outstanding. The paint is swirl free and smooth as glass.

It must be something with my application process.

I'm using high quality MF's for removal.

I'll try using a very thin coat. Maybe that might do it. Would a MF applicator be better than a foam pad for application?

What's a good rule of thumb as far as drying time with a VERY thin coat?? About 20 minutes sound right? It's 85 degrees here in CT with low humidty - although I'll be working on my car tonight when it will be cooler...

          Thank you!!!!

Wait till it cools down, then like I said above, try applying the wax to only a small are first, for example a quarter of the hood, or half the hood. Apply a thin coat, using circular, overlapping motions. Allow 15 to 20 minutes to pass then remove gently.

I tried the liquid once. I prefer the Paste.

The liquid does very well for me but for some reason I suspect it does not like the high humidity we have had here in Southern Md lately. I tend to to my detailing on Friday nights when possible. Start about 8 with the wash then seem to start applying wax at about 10. The nightly dew around here starts settling in about 12 or so and I notice that if the humidity is high or I can't start the wax removal process until after the dew starts, then I get a little streaking with the liquid. I get it with the paste as well but moreso with the liquid.

With the paste, even if I can't beat the dew and it is just starting to show. I find the paste a little forgiving. But I still try my best to beat the dew.

I guess in a nutshell I am trying to say keep an eye on your humidity level in your area and see if the there might be a correlation between high humidity and/or dew when you wax.

Just a possibility there. Maybe since you are doing your work in the evening the dew is starting to settle but maybe not enough that you are noticing. It looks like both of us do our work at night and seem to see the same issue with the liquid

I honestly don't see how you are having a serrious problem, but I belive you are.

When my car is clean, I put it on with a wax applicator in a very thin coat. I let it completely haze, then I wipe it off.

Honestly, I have found that once it gets dry it doesn't get dryer. Essentially the petroleum distillates evaporate leaving the wax bonded to the paint and hazy ready to come off.

Make sure you are in the shade and give it time to dry. Wiping off wet wax will streak a lot.

If you are left with streaks, you should be able to wipe them off in a few minutes. Give it a try. I use Nxt Tech Wax Liquid and must tell you I have no problems with it. If ind it goes on and comes off easily.

For me, I suspect the dew is my problem. I think sometimes the dew has started settling but because the Wax is already on the finish, it takes a little longer for me to catch it.

What I have done is to Wash & Wax here at the house. Usually get all the WAX on just about the time that the dew starts. Then I hop in and ride about a mile up the road to the local Cash wash place where I park in one of the do it yourself stalls and then start removing the wax. I don't have any problems with the owners becaue this is usually after midnight.

I work at night so it is not an issue for me to stay awake all night doing this. I actually kind of enjoy it.

But, I find both with the liquid and the paste that if I let the dew get to it, it's much harder to remove and if I don't take my time and look closely, I will have streaks as well as small dots of wax here and there.

I am new to all this so it took me a few times to refine my technique to a point where I can do my work late at night and still make progress.

I have streaking issues with it too sometimes.

I try to let it set up for a good 20 minutes or so before wiping it off, but it streaks anyway.

Might be a compatibility issue with the paint, but I mostly think it's due to the extended curing process in humid climates. The next day, you can hardly see any streaks left, if any at all.

                    Looks great in the end!

The paste version definitely dries more quickly. I have not had the liquid streak for me, but the Spray Booster Wax will streak when the humidity is high.

I find the paste to be easier to work with. It gives a little bit deeper gloss than the liquid and seems to last a little bit longer IMHO.

Try it in a garage not outside. Simply put inside the dew doesn't set.

I agree. I usually find that if I use the liquid at night. I usually need to do a final buffing with a Supreme Shine Microfiber to get rid of the specs and the few streaks. Whereas with the Paste, I usually tend to be able to fogo the final wipedown until the next day and I can just skip the final buff and hit it with QDer

I live in California and most days it doesn't rain and the temperature is 60 or hotter and the humidity is usually 40% or desert Dry.

                            I never have a problem!
