  • Right Stuff?

    Hey guys,

Not much posting as you can see, but I visit this site nitely after work. I have learned quite a bit, book marked a few threads and I'm anxious to put in an order.

I am going to detail cars part time at the moment. When the customers pick up, I will drop my current job. I'm only 18, but dont let this affect your ability to respond and help a fellow detailer.

I have the mind set, determination and passion for car detailing. I have been doing this since I was 17, with my moms car, and now I have my own, I baby it weekly.

So, I have broken it down, and the most widely used consumer products are; NXT Glass, NXT wax, Quik Detailer, Speed Glaze, ScractchX and ColorX.

Now, what I'm asking you expierenced detailers, what's a good "starter kit" to get me going. I have no expierence with a DA or Orbital, but I get paid tomorrow and will be buying a Orbital to gain some expierence with a mechanical device.

I was thinking of something along these lines, correct me or add input as your leisure.

    NXT Glass Cleaner
    NXT Insane Tire Shine
    NXT Tire Cleaner
    ColorX
    ScratchX?
    Cleaner Polish?

I'd like to get my hands on some speed glaze, but the nearest dealer is 15 or so miles away. If you could recommend mostly consumer products, to help me gain confidence and expierence, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time and input,

    -Nick

dont waste ur time with a orbital, safe up and buy the PC... best investment u'd ever make if ur seriously into this stuff.... u can get the lowes one for $109 but u'd need the backing plate for $20 and pads which is about $10.... but u dont get the lifetime warrenty that u'd get with the meguiars G100a.... theres ocational promotions where it only costs $145 which comes with backing plate and pads... u wont regret buying it.... and the things u have currently would work just great.... speed glaze with the PC works wonders on most paint surfaces....

and the PC is pretty much idiot proof.... cant really go wrong with it.... only better.... only way u can damage the car with it is if u drop it which is pretty hard since it fits the hand quite nicely

Thanks. I am going to buy the DA from Maguiars, but not sure when. I was thinking about the NXT collection with the DA for $309, but I am been going back and forth. I need the brushes and other items, but my PepBoys carrys a full line of consumer products including brushes. So I would only save a few bucks if I ordered it online (plus shipping). Is the DA available at retail stores, or only online?

What's compariable to speed glaze? Consumer wise...

well for basic paint renewal... all u need is the DA, 80, nxt, qd and a bunch of mf towels.... qd comes in handy when ur too lazy to wash ur car and u know ur doing a complete detail anyways so minor swirls wouldnt matter....

I am not a little kid trying to scap together some money. I am serious minded and ready to get wet and make some money. I am getting my MBA from UF in 2009 and will soon start a little shop, while maintaining and building my customer base in the mobile detailing department.

I'm training for an assistant manager spot at Target, so I show strong leadership and sometimes often referred to as a "perfectionist".. which I take as a compliment, although it has its draw-backs, such as time consuming (which isnt all so great at my current job).

Thats enough about me and back on topic

i dont know of anything thats comparable to 80s convienance and effectiveness.... just buy the 80 and use it with a 8006 pad on the DA and polish away.... if ur defects get more serious then go w/ 83 w/ a 8006 pad

Oh no, I know no harm was intended. I understand where you're coming from, and I am open to criticism and discussion.

I am trying to stay local since I could walk to PepBoys if I needed to.

That's why I'm trying to buy consumer related products. I buy various things off the internet, but use a credit card (with super high intrest around 23%, but I got one at 18) so its usually for emergencies and low-priced items via internet.

But if nothing really compares to #80, I guess I will have to find this place tomorrow. Does anyone know if the DA is available where pro series products or retail centers carry it?

                  Thanks again for your time,

                  -Nick

                    Hi nick1897

                    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Your product list is an excellent start!!! In time it would be wise to obtain the G100 Dual Action Polisher as it has the power, and the ability to accept foam pads in order to complete certain tasks.

Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze is quite a unique product. It cleans/polishes and contains a paintable polymer. As such, it stands alone.

However, for similar cleaning ability by hand, Meguiar's ScratchX would work well. Following this with the ColorX and 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax will greatly enhance your paint finish!

Here are a couple of helpful links. Application by hand:

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

                    And when using the G100:

Using the G-100 to remove swirls with the Professional Line

I hope this helps! Please post some before and after pictures of your car!

We don't have a digital camera, and after a few washes, there won't be much of a difference. Although when I purchase one for myself, I will post some after pictures.

I've got those links already bookmarked Tim. Thanks once again!

Is the G100DA availabe in-store? Or is it an internet only item?

                      Thanks again guys,
