  • I'm not sure...please help:

I am wondering if I did use the scratchx on the entire car...would I have to clay it too, or is the scratchx sufficient? I don't mind doing the work. I just don't want to do both if I don't have to. I also wanted to ask about polishing Torque Thrust wheels (billet), does Meguiars make a polish for these type of wheels? Thanks.

Meguiar's always teaches to Evaluate the Surface and this will guide you in your product selection.

So first, after washing the car, feel the paint with your clean hands for above surface bonded contaminants, if you feel them, then use some detailing clay first.

We always clay first, then use a paint cleaner, the idea being to remove the things on top of the paint before going after the things below the paint.

Besides evaluating for above surface contaminants, you also want to inspect your car's finish visually for swirls, scratches, oxidation etc, if you discover these things then you want to use a paint cleaner like ScratchX before going to wax, or use a strong cleaner/wax like ColorX.

Read this as it outlines the different steps and the order in which you perform them.

    Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

    Step 1 Wash

    Step 2 Clean

    Step 3 Polish

    Step 4 Protect

    Step 5 Maintain
