Ok, this has been bugging me for a little bit.
We all know that polishing is basically taking down the finish to
below the level of whatever defect we are trying to remove.
Those who are using the products correctly know to use the *least*
abrasive product the does the job so as not to be burning off
too much material.
So, all that said, I know a lot of us really enjoy taking the time
to clean, polish, wax our cars to get the best finish possible.
I find it very therapeutic in fact, taking 4-8 hours to go over my car
by hand or with the RO. But my worry is...what's the long term
effects of polishing the paint regularly? Aren't we just sanding
down our paint little by little by little?
I know on my Scion, the Japanese paint is quite (typically) thin.
I'd sure hate to have to repaint in 5-7 years after polishing
regularly to maintain that show finish!
What are the Pro's thoughts on this? Am I worrying for nothing?
Would I only be worrying if I was polishing monthly for 20 years? LOL
Truly, I polish as infrequently as possible, and wax as often as
I feel the paint needs it (or more so I need it to look freshly waxed ).
In advance, thanks for your thoughts on this.
