  • Question

This may sound like overkill but a response would be appreciated.
    Six weeks ago I polished my car with (# 7 ) and waxed ( # 26).
The car is new, garaged kept and still looks good.

??? would it be OK to polish ( # 7) and wax ( # 26 ) again or is this just a waste of time and products.

    Regards,
    Frankie

Well, it may be overkill.. but then that seems to be rampant around here...

The most important thing is evaluating the surface, though as it is garaged, I am sure there is still wax there. But evaluate it to make sure nonetheless.

If you enjoy the process, or if it needs it, then certainly go for it. I may add that claying and a mild paint cleaner can add even more to your results.

If you are short on time, and just worried about keeping a good look, then after washing each week or two, use a spray wax. It will put back the gloss, and a little protection.

Maybe I should clarify my question?
The car is still in a waxed condition and it is good.

??? by doing the polish with ( # 7) and wax ( # 26 ) again, would that do more harm then good on a wax job that is in good condition etc.

I guess to say it bluntly, is this a stupid IDEA?

Not a stupid idea at all...

Another coat of polish and wax will do no harm at all. Just try it and see if it looks good to you, see if it is worth the effort. If it makes it look great, then keep it up. I dont know how big the improvement would be.

But you do have to be carefull that your cars surface is completly clean, or else you could drag dirt across it, possibly putting in swirls.

if anything , why not just put another coat of wax, if it still has the just waxed appearance as it is now..

              Hey,

              Just to chime in...

Wax is a sacrificial barrier that wears away over time. If the paint has been exposed to the elements, then this wear has already begun. So if your paint was at 100% maximum potential right after waxing, after exposure, that level has now dropped; perhaps not by that much though. But let's say that in a month of moderate exposure your wax has dropped to 85%. That extra 15% may make a huge difference in the quality of the finish. Therefore applying a fresh coat of #7/26 would help to bring that finish back to a higher level again.

                I agree

If you always want your car to look like you just waxed it... then just wax it

A good QD'ing will give it a great look too.

You may use Spray Wax to maintain it.

Overkill? You mean we need to justify waxing no matter how soon, dang? (kidding ya)

What I mean is there is NOTHING that looks better then a freshly waxed car. Using the Booster (Spray Waxes) does this for you when it has not been too long since you did a full wax job. But, I love waxing and have no issues how often.

If it (wax) is in really good shape still, try a fender or hood and take a look at it and compare it to your older wax job. If there is no difference then you have your answer. If your like me, I do it anyway.
