  • Steps resolving small area of swirls and scratches

The question referring to the work done on less then 3” by 3” area, because only this area has swirls and scratches.

    1. How do I know when to use Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner DC1 & Scratch X?

    2. After using Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner or Scratch X, must it follow by Deep Crystal System Polish DC2 > Polymer Sealant M2016 > then Wax?

  • #2
DC1 is a chemical cleaner, Scratch-X is an abrasive cleaner. The material used to apply the product also determines how aggressive the product will be...terry cloth = more aggressive, foam = less aggressive. DC2 polish is also non-abrasive.

DC1 - DC2 and Scratch-X DO NOT leave any protection on the paint and must be followed by a wax or sealant.

Just to add on to what Don said, after cleaning and polishing, you will need to protect the finish.

However, you can use any of the waxes/sealers on their own, or layer them.

You could use 2 layers of #20, or a layer of #20 and and then another wax. There are a lot of combinations you can use, just have to see what you like best.

If I only do it on a small area, will it have different look with the rest of the area?

Assuming that I use DC1 or Scratch X follow by Sealant then Wax.

Worst case, it will look better than the rest of the car.

It possibly could but it depends on the condition your paint is in over the rest of the car. If you have your finish already at its maximum potential (swirl free, no marring etc), then the small area will blend in, as it too, will be at its maximum potential. If the spot looks different, that suggests that the spot has been brought to a higher level than the rest of the car. In that case, you will need to complete the process on the rest of the car.

What you mean is that if the spot looks different, then I have to do it for the rest of the car

Which mean using Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner or Scratch X for the whole car?

If using ScratchX or DC1 brought the spot to a higher level, then yes,you may need to do the rest of the car as well.

Always use the least aggressive/most effective product to get the job done. So, if the spot does not match, first try using the DC1 on an area around the spot. If it matches, then I would suggest using DC1 over the whole car. If it does not match, then try the ScratchX. If this matches then you will need to do the whole car with ScratchX.

As long as you use good technique, premium quality application materials and removal materials, there should be no sign that you ever worked on the car.

This of course assumes the rest of the paint is in new or like new condition.

Thanks for the answer. Appreciate it very much.

I forgot to mention that my ride is new.

Which are the least aggressive products before using DC1?

If you want to remove swirls in a small area you need to use ScratchX and skip the DC1

It's not a matter of which is the least aggressive in your situation, it's a matter of which is more effective.

Use the ScratchX in the affected areas and then go to wax, if you like polish with a pure polish and then go to wax
