  • newbie to the DA

Hey guys. Now don't flame on me but I've never used the dual action before. i've been applying product by hand since i started to get use to this detailing stuff a month or so ago.

but my question is, I want to start practicing with the DA on some spare body parts I have laying around my garage, before I try and move onto doing my car and other cars. my questions are:

what kind of supplies do I need to practice?

what kind of product? Do you have to order all the stuff from the professional line, or can all the DC stuff, and NXT wax, and Gold class be applied with a DA?

Again, I'm new and looking to learn by practicing on fenders, and stuff that I have around my garage but moving onto paint that matters. thanks!

Never bad to practice, but it wont take you long to figure it out.

Basicaly, you will need some product, and then a pad to apply, 1 pad per product, and then either MF towels to remove, or bonnets+clean pad if going to remove with the DA.

A basic detail would like this:
    Wash: as usual
    Clay: as usual
Clean: Mild cleaning with #80, More agressive cleaning with #83.
Polish: (Optional), can use #7, or #81
Wax: #21 works great, though Nxt liquid is also great. The gold class, and #20 can also be used, the liquids are easier wih a DA for most people.

Apply cleaners with 8006 pads. Apply polish/wax with 9006 pads. (1 per product). Remove excess with MF towels, or bonnets over clean 7006 pad. ONLY use the 7006 pad under a bonnet to remove product, not to apply product.

The "80-series" products are designed to give best results with a DA. Consumer line cleaners can be used, but they are generaly meant for use by hand. This can lead to them gumming up easily sometimes.

    Hope that helps some.

To start with you need a dual action polisher, a few pads and a few microfiber polishing cloths.

To start out with, use what you have, if you have products from the Deep Crystal Line, then go ahead and use them. Another great product that is very versatile on what you use it on, and easy to use with the dual action polisher is the ColorX cleaner/wax.

It's also available at most auto parts stores.
