Underneath door handles

Any advice about detailing under door handles? The area underneath the door handles on my car has been roughened by the normal action of using your hand to open the door.

What does it look like? Does it have scratches?

I get lots of fingernail lines (which is odd since my nails are pretty short). A mild rub with ScratchX works on mine.

To polish out any problems in that area, I just work by hand, usually using a MF both to apply and buff off. This will limit your product choices a little, but you could use somethng like the new version of #2 and follow up with #80 and a LSP.

And then I'd find out who scratched the car and discuss it with them. Not like it can't be helped; my wife and I , and our friends, never scratch these areas because we're careful *every* time we open the doors. The one time the dealership guys scratched mine like that I had a little talk with them and it hasn't happened since.

Besides just making sure everybody who touches your car is very careful, you could look into the clear plastic protector pieces they sell for just this situation. No link handy, but they adhere via static cling and people tell me they work well. Might be more practical a solution for some folks than trying to keep the area untouched.

Hey,

To polish the paint under the door handles, I suggest using Meguiar's ScratchX with a piece of 100% cotton terry towelling. You will need to put some real effort into working the product, and it may take a few passes. But be patient, and you should be able to make the finish look great!!! Then gently remind people to watch their rings etc when opening the door!

My wife has a custom made engagement ring that she wears all the time. That thing has scratched up the glass in front of the inside door lock.

Getting back to the door handle, I too would recommend ScratchX for this type of area. But ColorX might be a good choice too.

I know the feeling about the rings! They are also hard on the plastic door panels. Oh well...it is only a car!

From my experience, ColorX would not be strong enough to remove the marring. Though following the ScratchX with the ColorX would be a good idea.

Underneath door handles

Applied Clear Coat Body Scrub first, then applied ColorX. Eliminated 99% of scratches and abrasions. Looks almost like new.
