  • Some Detailing Questions

I finished washing, claying, cleaning, polishing, and waxing my black 67 mustang about two weeks ago and I loved the results. The paint feels and shines like glass.

I want to polish and wax the car again. Do I need to us a cleaner to remove the old wax and polish or can I just start polishing and waxing again?

Also, can anyone suggest a good wax for a non-clear coat car?

if your gonna do it soon like within the next 2 weeks i wouldnt see the need to use a cleaner wax, now if you will wait a month or 2 i would consider then.

      Fellow Washitonian,
I detailed a neglected 69 Camaro a month ago and I used #21 followed by tech wax and it came out awesome. Polish is like sunscreen to a person. The wax is a protectant. My meg mentor told me to to wax three times maximum. Each time you wax it fills in the areas where you missed before. If you clayed your car you are way out in front of the normal joe person cleaning his/her car.
Especially in our winters here, we have to remember to do two things. lay a very good wax job down and use rubber mats in our floorboards. Have a great time detailing. It is infectious and the rewards are tremendous.

You don't need to remove Meguiar's waxes and polishes before re-applying.

You'll get best results by removing any contaminants or oxidation first but since you did the full treatment only two weeks ago you shouldn't have any (unless you got lucky and the car got a load of crud or water spots or whatever dumped on it).

Any of Meguiar's waxes will work great on single stage paint. I'd probably go with NXT, Gold Class or #26.

edit: Great ride! How about some pix?
