  • Fresh paint haze

just finished fixing a small patch of rust and small hole near the windshield and pilar on my jeep. I painted it and when dry put down some clear coat, all from a spray can. I know that i'm not going to get a professional look from this. However the edges where i tried to blend the paint and clear coat in too has a haze or really dull area all around the edge where there was a little over spray from the clear. I plan on polishing this with a variable speed polisher. How long should i wait until i polish this and what polish should i use?
    Thanks

    Hi Pullar,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I've never done this, but I'll take a stab at what will probably happen. This edge between your spray can application and the original paint is going to be difficult/impossible to remove or make unnoticeable. The reason for this is because when you try to polish it smooth to make it disappear, what you're going to do is to remove the sprayed-on paint and in essence the edge or area of difference is going to creep along as you continue to polish it. I think what you're going to need to do is to paint to an edge, or a body line, or a pinstripe, something like this and have a hard edge, not a feathered or blended edge.

Here's a thread that kind of talks about this topic from last week...

Thanks for the advice. You were right in that the line did move as i polished the paint. It does however look much better now than it did to start. The line is faint and difficult to notice. From two to three feet away it is not noticable at all. After reading some of the past questions on fresh paint and waxing/ sealing i will be waiting a month to apply a polish and wax. I currently have the gold glass wax, but would appreciate a recomendation for a polish to go under it. I usually use a small cordless random orbit polisher to apply and remove the wax. What polish would work good with this?

P.s. After reading about the clay bar system I purchased the meguiars quick clay package and tried it out on the hood of the jeep. I did only half of it to see if i could really notice a difference. I was very impressed with the product and intend to go back and finish the rest of the jeep tomorrow.

Any of our pure polishes would work for a polish before applying our wax, you might look for the Deep Crystal Polish as it is easy to find, easy to work with and a great value for your money.
