It's got a really low profile and they don't appear to be advertising anywhere. You kind of just have to "know about it". Meguiar's has been serving finish care professionals for many decades. I can't imagine they'd want to compete with their customers.

    PC.
That what I figure also. If that is the case I love Meguiars even more.

When I worked for 76 (the gas stations with the orange ball that say 76). They had 1 company owned station. It was the perfect station and was more of a test bed to see what works and what doesn't, to show prospective investors and gas station owners what it's about and stuff. I don't know if the gas station owners were worried that 76 would start it's own chain of company owned stations but I knew that group personaly and knew it was not a money maker for them, just R&D. I used to take my car there to get fixed because they hired the best mechanics and kept the place spotless because it was company owned. So I can understand the appeal of someone that understands what the Meguiars shop is about and goes there to get a quality detail but to think it's real competition to the independent detailers, I seriously doubt it. What they should do is sell all the proffesional and detailer line products and stock them at list price so people that need something now can get it without ordering from a supplier and waiting when they need product now.

        Hey Buellwinkle

I worked for 76 for 24 years. Started in Schaumburg, the moved to the Saturn bldg, Hartley Center and Costa Mesa...right up to the sale to Tosco.

        Where did you work?

That's a long time to work for one place. I worked for close to 3 years between the La Palma building then Anton Rd in Costa Mesa. It was probably the most enjoyable business I worked for. I worked together with their pricing dept. They got bought out by Phillips 66 a while ago from Tosco. I worked a few months into Tosco to help them maintain their pricing system until they could hire someone local in Phoenix. I could never live in Phoenix or Oklahoma (where they moved to again). It was sad to see the California oil business sold off to larger conglomorates for a quick buck. At least Unocal didn't end up in foreign hands...

Isn't that the company that used to have the "Pure" logo?

If that's the case, I wonder why they changed it?

$150.00 for a full detail in Southern CA?

I'll bet they have plenty of business!

Yes that is the same company. Around 1967 Union Oil Company of California which was only marketing west of the Mississippi bought Pure Oil company, which was operating east of the Mississippi river. It then became Union76, marketing across the entire country.

I started working for Union76 in Schaumburg, Ill back in 1974.

                  Thanks!

You used to see the old logo at NASCAR races a lot back in the old days. But I've started to notice the "Pure" sign popping up again now-a-days in places.

I would pay good money to just work in that shop for 5 days!

Seriously, I'd love to see the complete scope of an operation designed and developed with corporate level talent and resources.

                    I repeat:
"I would pay good money to just work in that shop for 5 days!"
And sure, I'd cover my own expenses...

If it was easy, everybody'd be doing it!

                      Joe-

                      1. I wouldn't worry about competition based on what I have seen of your work.

                      2. Since you use Meguiars products in your business, anything that reinforces the quality of Meguiars products is good for you.

                      3. Competition makes us better detailers.
